Have you tried taking out the video card? That should make the BIOS swap over to the onboard, becuase it won't detect an external video card.

Either that, or have you tried reseting the CMOS?

G013M

I've tried taking it out... several times.. it does switch over to the onboard, I think.. just not properly. As I said in my first post, when I try with the onboard card, all it shows is a few flashes of the bootup screen. I think I had previously uninstalled the onboard drivers or something like that a while ago *facepalm*. But, what's this about the CMOS? How do you reset it?

Don't know if I didn't actually emphasize this in the first post, but my moniter wont turn on and I wouldn't be able to see the bios. Kind of the main idea here

or something. Anyway, when I try to boot up now, my monitor wont turn on but I know that the computer itself is actually booting. I don't know what the problem is, but I'm fairly sure it's not going to be working anytime soon. I've been fiddling with it for the past two hours now, and I get nothing. Either way, I need help, and the way I see it, there are only a few options I have (in which I wouldn't have an idea how to do without having any sort of display.)

Option 1: Fix the graphics card. Would have no idea on how to do this, not that tech savvy.

Option 2: Find out how to re-enable my onboard graphics card (At the moment, when I plug the moniter into the onboard chip, it still boots up, but I still get nothing on the screen except a mess of what's supposed to be the bootup screen.)

Option 3(last resort): Reformat computer to get onboard chip to work. Don't know if it's even possible to go about doing this without any sort of display.

So, any recommendations?

Does your mobo have integrated graphics? If so have you disabled it in the bios?michael098

Yeah.. I have on-board. Not sure how to disable it in the bios though.. I'm on my laptop right now, looking at the options on my desktop and I can't find it

Well same here, I got myself a new Mobo and an NX8800GT which was a hell of a step forward from my AGP mobo and 6600. I experience the same problem when I installed the mobo and card but later found out that I just needed to reinstall Windows to fix the problem because my current Windows does not recognize the mobo. In your case however, since you don't have a ne mobo, then the problem could be in the card...or monitor. Did you do the Hard Reset yet?aeterna789

Yup, I did the hard reset.. a few times in fact. Same results every time, moniter turns on then off.

hit the source button on your monitorTheDuffman26

It's a CRT moniter, and somewhat old at that. I don't think it has a source button. Could that be the problem? I don't see why it would be...

Lets, try a Hard Reset for your video card. Hard Reset means you have to remove the card then place it back in again, and make sure all the plugs are secured.

Another question, do you have a new motherboard too or just the video card?

aeterna789

No new motherboard, just a new card. I figured it was time to upgrade from my 6600 that I got two years ago along with the computer.

basic question : do you have your monitor plugged in ?

whoody12

YES.

The moniter is actually on, but just doesn't come out of standby or whatever when I turn the computer on. Also, sometimes when I try to turn my computer on, the screen turns on for a split second, then shuts off again.
