achievement points are the devil

I never saw the draw of the Xbox Live achievement points. I would hear people talking about them and bragging. I laughed when I saw the running points total on the soapbox and think, "what a bunch of tools".

Then I got a Xbox 360 the other day. I can't seem to stop checking my achievement points. I don't have very many, but that will change. I will get myself more points than you can shake your proverbial stick at!

As I was comparing my points on Gears of War to some of my buddies. I realized what a great thing these points are for Microsoft. Talk about building competition to drive sales. I can see that if my buddy and me are real close in points, I would absolutely download or purchase a new game to pass him up. I have always been a VERY competitive person. I will never allow a friend to be able to lord anything over me ... including these achievements.

So, I guess the moral of the story is ... I am also a tool ....

reviews of "big" games

I am stating to absolutely despise when big games get released. By big I mean the games that get all the hype, everyone is talking about and a lot of people want to play. My recent aversion is due to the inevitable explosion of the fanboys (and I do hate using that word). The "hardcore" will start claiming that GameSpot is biased and they are not going to come here any more ... don't we wish.

It really started to bother me to the point of suicide with the LoZ: Twilight Princess review. I could have sworn the apocalypse was at hand, and people were spending it on-line crying. Now Motorstorm did not get a perfect score ... I think it might be raining fire outside.

Alex said in the review that it's a good game and worth playing ... what more do people want for crying out loud. Read the review, rent the game, or even go to Game Crazy and play it for free ... then decide for yourself. The world, and more games, will still be there tomorrow.

Forums

I enjoy GameSpot's forums .... That being said, the main problem with the forums is everyone thinks that people actually care what they think! I realize that in the grand scheme of things I am not important, and very few people actually care what my opinions are. Some posters take themselves way too seriously, they actually get worked up if someone disagrees or, heavon forbid, proves them wrong. I have very few posts for the length of time I have been a memeber to Gamespot, and I am proud of it.
