Oh, and flamers: THIS IS AN OPINION PIECE. HE SPECIFICALLY SAYS THIS IS SIMPLY HIS PERSONAL CONVICTION. INSTEAD OF READING THE TITLE AND THEN GETTING ALL DEFENSIVE, HOW ABOUT YOU READ THE ARTICLE AND THEN RESPOND IN A CALM, RATIONAL WAY. Ugh.
I appreciate not only your honesty, but also that, unlike so many, many people, you take the time to think about these things. I agree with you; but more importantly, I'm proud of you for standing up for what you believe in.
Both atheism and Christianity require belief. We can't know that atheism is true, and we can't know that God exists. Science goes back and forth, and their is evidence for both. But that's not important. People don't pick a worldview because it's logical or the best interpretation of the facts; we almost always pick it because that's what we were taught. If we were all born as 30-year-olds with the ability to logically think through things from the start, things might be different. But we aren't. Sadly, it can be very hard for us to overcome what we've been taught and form our own conclusions. Same with politics. So do yourself a favor; read books written by advocates of both sides. Figure out what you believe for yourself. That said, this article is so right. The problem with Christian games is Christians. We need to tell beautiful stories inspired by our beliefs; not stories that serve as vehicles for our proselytizing.
Nice work gamespot! Very balanced, logical and well-written article. Flamers, do us a favor: if all you have to say is bash religion or bash atheisim, go away and let the adults have some meaningful discussion.
