Last week I though it was about time to upgrade my gaming PC - I brought all the components - 8800GTX, AMD 64 X2 6000+ (much cheaper than the equiv Core 2 Duo platform and i dont overclock), 2GB DDR etc - and stuffed it into my mid size desktop case. First I must say DAMN THOSE 8800GTX's are HUGE! It takes up half the harddrive bay in my case so I now have 3 HDD's hanging by two screws each in the 5.25" bays - dodgy, but I had no where else to put them - I have 2 drives in what is left of my 3.5" bay and 2 more drives where the floppy drives should go. And 4 12V connectors FTW!! I ran out of power connectors and splitters so I have no fan controller now and my computer is deafening - if anyone can recommened a decent all-in-one watercooling solution (GPU + CPU + RAM which includes radiator, pumps, reservoir, hoses etc) i'd appreciate it.
But anyway I throw the parts into my case, turn the computer back on to see if the components all work (with my Vista CD in hand ready to reinstall) and I get the shock of my life when Vista not only loads, but proceeds to automatically install all my new chipset and graphics card drivers by itself. A quick reboot later and I'm ready to Game again - no reinstall necessary. What was Microsoft thinking? Whats the point in finally making an effective and painless Windows installer and I don't even have to use it (although it was quite possibly a complete fluke/act of god or watever).
