Believe it or not, I've never played a survival horror game more or less because I'm more into the action-adventure and fps genres...and I'm a big wimp.
Far Cry 2, minus the kinks, is a very awesome and enjoyable game. But, this game has taught me a little something about my readiness to play survival horror games. How have I possibly come to this conclusion?
Well...One day I was minding my own business running through the fields of Africa when out of nowhere, a gigantic zebra head flew into my field of vision. In case you've never played the game, Far Cry 2 revolves around the setting of Africa in which grazing herbivores roam free. These digital animals are not designed to interact with humans, but that one zebra popped right into my sights so close that he looked into my eyes. I almost fell out of my chair. I had to pause the game. I had to catch my breath.
Now, I realize that when you pick up a survival horror game, you play it expecting for such scary, heart-jolting events to occur. (Maybe there's just not a zebra head involved, but you never know.) In Far Cry 2, I simply wasn't expecting for anything to jump out at me so that's why I became so scared! That...and I'm a big wimp.
Who would have thought that a lone zebra roaming in the bush would change the way I view survival horrors forever?
