I don't think it's my video settings. It will always boot up to the home screen ok. It only does this when loading a game disk or demo. It appears the ps3 re-adjusts the resolution when loading games from the home screen and thats when this happens. My hdmi cable is not the most expensive ($35 dollars) but not the cheapest either. I don't think thats it.

I'm having some trouble with my new ps3. When loading rfom or demos about 1 in 5 times my tv picture will turn black. I have audio but no video. Just a black screen. My Tv is a 27in samsung lns2738d hooked to ps3 via hdmi. I either have to force a shutdown on the ps3 or pull the hdmi cable out of the tv to get the picture back.

I've been reading that there has been some issues with timing/handoffs of the signal between certain tv's and the ps3. Is this a symptom of that? Or is my ps3 screwed?

Your TV should accept a 1080i signal and then it should scale it to 720p. So you should be fine. I have a 720p lcd and it plays bluerays movies and they look great
