In a nutshell, everything about this game is spot-on, from the sublime graphics, to the unrivalled gameplay, to the surprisingly effective soundtrack. Part of me was expecting to be disappointed with this, considering all the hype, but within 2 minutes of gameplay, i was convinced. Completely!
The slightly adjusted control system drops into place like it was always there; the weapons upgrade system works like a dream, and is instantly usable; and the ever-intelligent guards will still hunt you down like Bin Laden himself if you give so much as a hint of your position. All the work they've done making the camera totally controlled by you has payed off; gone are the times of being rumbled whilst trying to work out which way you're facing! Even the process of moving stealthily seems less clunky.
The cut-scenes are still in there a-plenty, but don't irritate like they did in the previous outings. Coming at sensible points in the action (so far) helps them blend in more too. Playing on the second-hardest setting (so far) means that the game is very challenging, but not frustratingly so. Having moved through the game into "Act II", i was astounded at the change in scenery; if this is a taste of the quality of the game's locations, there is so much more to come!
If, like me, this game was one of the main reasons for you forking out for a PS3 last year, consider yourself redeemed. Despite some cracking titles so far, this easily the best game on this (or any) console. Can't see anything else coming close for a while, either. Obviously, the online section isn't up and running yet, so I've not tried that, but i'm sure it'll be at least as good as the beta.
Quite simply, this game is astounding. Enjoy.
