it has to connect to the router, a hub that connects to a router, or a switch that connects to a router.
i WOULD prefer wired because i hate buying batteries, but i bought one once, and the cord started to have connection problems. it had to be perfectly straight or it would disconnect. i didn't even bother to buy a new one because it had only lasted like a month

[QUOTE="INF1DEL"]It's not always this simple. There are multiple laptops and 360s at my house and every time one connects to the network it gets a different ip address. You may have to set up a static ip which is more complicated. Where did you find out which ports to forward? Everywhere else I've read you need 53, 80, 88 and 3074.INF1DEL
usually with DHCP a host gets a "preferred" address. it will get this address every time it turns on. so its pretty safe to use the IP it has at the time. I could edit the post to explain how to get a static IP on an xbox, but i can't just say "assign the highest usable host addresss" since most people don't know what that means, and i can't pick a random number to tell them to assign, since i don't know how many hosts they have, or number of addresses DHCP is assigning, or when DHCP starts.
I don't know what any of that means lol. I don't know anything about networking, I just used a guide from portforward.com. I remember I tried it before without a static ip and it didn't work. Then I had to figure out how to get a static ip because it wouldn't let me join a game in Black Ops, just kept putting me in an empty lobby.
when you connect a network DHCP assigns you an IP address. usually the 1st time it assigns you an address. it will look at your mac address(which is unique to everything that can use the internet) it remembers what IP address you got, and will give that address to you every time you log back on the network.
i cant really tell someone what address to assign to their xbox, because dhcp can start assigning addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255(although 255 isnt practical). i also don't know how many addresses DHCP will assign. in my case, it starts at 192.168.1.100 and will assign up to 50 addresses. so for me, if i wanted to give something a static address i would have to give it something from .2-.99(.1 is usually the router, and .0 is the network address) or .150(dhcp stops at 149, because it uses the .100) to .254(.255 is my broadcast address). however this might not be the same for everyone, so its easier to just tell people to use the IP the xbox currently has.
[QUOTE="dragonic9100"]The batteries last more than a month. I've had a couple of plug and play kits and the batteries lasted me a good couple of years before they couldn't keep a long charge.i think you're battery is dead. in my personal experience(i've had 2 charge kits) the batteries only last about a month. my advice(if you want to keep using it) is just treat it as a wired controller.
Although don't but an actual wired controllers, those don't last very long either.
DJ_Magneto
yeah, mine lasted about a month. it didn't even come close to a year
Looks like I might be able to open my Christmas present a little early! I created this thread because I want to know what I can do to make sure that my box 360 lasts a long time.
Its the slim version. I have done my research and heve yet to talk to anyone who has not recerved the RROD on the Xbox. I have heard that you need to make sure it is in a well ventilated spot, it helps to install the game on the HDD, that you should lay the console falt as opposed to standing. What other tips are there? I generally take good care of my systems and have never had problems with them (except PS2 still under warranty).
Has anyone owned their Xbox for a long time and never had any issues?
Thanks in advance.

i've had 2 xboxes and almost 3 years of live. the only time i've had a problem with it is when i nerd raged while playing halo and kicked it. i keep it laying flat, its on a nightstand next to my tv, with nothing blocking the vents, and i dont have any special faceplates or anything on it. so it seems like if you keep it ventilated and don't throw it at stuff you should be good
Really? So you can set up 4 gamertags for $60?Jurassic85
yeah, its that new xbox live family plan thing. 4 live accounts for like $100 or so. imo its a great deal, even though i havn't used it so idk if theres any limitations(like being able to be forced to have 2 child accounts or something stupid like that)

easiest way, put your 360's IP as your DMZ host under firewall settings. One IP and your done!chaoscougar1
i don't really have any experience with DMZ, i'm still a student =s
just out of curiosity, i assume you use the xbox's ip as the destination, but what do you put for the source? or do you just leave that set to "Any"
