"I don't really want to encourage an argument, but I'm curious as to what basic functions you find to be missing in Windows?" Well, if you take a basic XP installation for example, you can't open an archive file, play a dvd or burn a cd/dvd, start a torrent download, things like that. Maybe Vista has better power options but it runs like a pig on my older laptop. + I have to download an app to remove that ugly arrow shortcut icon on XP and Vista :)

@ Nikefreak - you don't really get it. Windowblinds etc. are apps that other companies make that cost money. A lot of basic functionality in Windows is missing, and users end up getting cracks or paying fees for third party software to do simple things. Only 50 people use Linux? O Rly? I have had no trouble setting up 3d rendering on Ubuntu/OpenSUSE/Fedora etc and these distros have better hardware detection and driver management than Windows a lot of the time. Anyway I don't care whether YOU dual boot or whatever, I just don't like seeing misinformation spewed out on messageboards. Microsoft don't need you to defend them. Name same things that Linux can do that Windows cannot, easy. How about use a network without security and virus apps chewing up tons of system resources in the background. Maybe a user just wants to run an OS that has been customized without breaking the law or some license agreement. Maybe it's just something simple like having my laptop keep doing a task with the lid shut. It's not hard to think of more. Anyway feel free to spew more bile but I'm done here.

@nilefreak - Wake up, you have way more control over your hardware using Linux. Just because you have gotten used to convenience and running bloated apps like anti virus doesn't mean windows can "do all Linux can". If you want to keep gaming choices then setting up a dual boot is easy. More choices are always better and open source has many advantages

When you get used to using multiple desktops on compiz it's hard to be impressed by what Microsoft are up to. Using dual and quad core processors the new OS should be faster, not still lagging behind XP

@ryan_returns29 - You don't know much about the welfare system here in oz. It may be easy to go on the dole when you are young with no assets, but try going on if your business has just failed. You just about need to hire an accountant to give them the paperwork they need.

Anyway, have you heard of Work for the Dole, or Mutual Obligation? I guess not. You can't just do nothing and continue to get paid by centerlink. But the vast majority of people on the dole want to work, and many have just lost a job and need some temporary help before they can find another job. But if you think they are all just 'bogans' that are bludging on the system, you need a reality check. Like I said before your tone makes you sound like an ignorant snob.

@ryan_returns29 - "because Labor support the bogans by paying them even more money than Liberal, which probably will increase the unemployement rate because the bogans will be getting heaps of money from our HIGH taxes"

Be careful what you say, unless you don't care if you sound like a completely spoiled brat. How many high taxes have you yourself paid, moron? You should be thankful for what you have, instead of looking down on poor people. You'll find out what hardship is one day. Until then, people like you make me sick.

Great, because we don't get enough election rubbish on the TV and the newspapers we need it on gamespot as well! I've already voted for the Greens this election, so there.

@ the_deathstar - r u talking about me? This is an article about finance, I'm just pointing out the flipside, there is more to this than just "Yay, go Nintendo". and @getoconnection, the thing about the Wii is that Nintendo have gone after a new casual market, and no one really knows if this new market is going to continue to support it. Japanese housewifes and people like that have bought the Wii don't really give a toss about games like Super Mario Galaxy, that's why it will be interesting to see how well it sells. I'm not arguing that Nintendo will go down, just pointing out the danger is there. Already the attach rate for Wii games is pretty poor, and that needs to turn around. Maybe Wii fit will do better than Mario, who knows? Watch and see, I guess.

@getoconnection - I checked out that article with the link you posted, and it's good, but it doesn't really address the real "bubble" issue, which is an economic one. Whenever a share price goes up remarkably like this, it's because investors are expecting a great deal out of the company, and if they don't deliver on these expectations, than they can be in real trouble. If you follow business than you would know this happens a lot, and it can destroy companies. Even though Nintendo is in the lead at the moment, this shows that they are facing even more pressure than Microsoft and Sony right now, and they are probably feeling it behind the scenes.

Lol, Well said Myugenjin, you've made some good points, but I didn't mean to say Nintendo has extra cash because of their share price, just their week on week sales, the fact they make a profit from each Wii sold and things like that. I just hope that with this revenue coming in they start making better hardware (HD compatible, for example) and games into the future. I was dissapointed with Twilight Princess, it didn't have a strong artistic vision like the Wind Waker or the older N64 games, and they stuck to a cheap MIDI soundtrack rather than an orchestral score, it had low res textures etc. Now they are doing well, their first party games should be able to have bigger production values from now on, otherwise people probably will lose interest and the Wii will end up a passing fad.
