I consider the story the most important aspect of a game, and from what I'd heard Dreamfall was a good place to start. And for all intents and purposes, it succeeded...at least until the end. I haven't played the The Longest Journey, but now I'm afraid to after what its sequel did to me. I was so pissed off by the ending, both because it had so many unanswered questions, and because it lacked...what's the word? Oh, right, sense. It didn't make much sense. I didn't give a rat's ass about Faith, creepy little girl that she was. WHat i want to know is...WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE OTHER CHARACTERS?? What about Damien, April, Kian, Chawan, Brynn, Benrime, the White Dragon (White of the Kin? Not sure which to use...), Brian, Reza, Liv, Charlie, and especially Crow. I definately have to give this game points for having the best comic relief character ever, Crow. But wow, was that ending stupid...had more loopholes than a funnel cake. I'd put it up there with other terrible endings like The Wicker Man (WORST STORY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!).
Anyway, putting that aside, the story was awesome until that part, especially in Arcadia. (Not a big fan of the whole 'evil corporation' thing)Combat wasn't much fun, except with Kian, but thankfully that was put on the backburner. The stealth parts were fun, as well as the puzzles. Thankfully none were too complicated. *Sigh* I thought this game had everything going for it (I seriously thought about giving it a 10) until it stabbed me in the back with that ending.
Unless theymake a sequel sometime soon, they have condemned themselves to making one of the worst stories ever. A story is nothing without a good resolution. The whole Faith crap was...well, crap. I don't know what else to say...I feel stupid for playing it now... All I know is that Zoƫ is in a coma, some...thing is impersonating Reza, April is supposedly dead (if she really is, that was one of the most anticlimactic events I have even seen), WATIcorp is succeeding in it's large-scale brainwashing attempt, Arcadia is being sent straight to hell by what the Dreamers are doing...the list goes on. WOW, great ending, FunCom and Aspyr...last time I get sucked into the promise of a story-oriented game. Unless, they make a sequel answering these questions. The best thing about this game was definately Crow, one of the coolest and, obviously, funniest characters ever.
