You must definitely try Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. And the second one with the content restoration.

Never played it, it doesn't appeal to me personally.

It might be a bit of a stretch to consider them retro, but I'll add Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, considering First Chapter originally released in 2004. Sure, the story builds slowly, but I got to really feel for some of the characters. So when the hard stuff hit, it hit me too.

Quite a detailed world, NPCs will always change their conversation topic every time something happens in the story. Plus events cross between trails sagas, making the world huge.

And I liked the combat system. I can't wait to play The Third.

Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, Flashback, Sonic 3. I revisit these games almost every year.
