I agree with schesak re : Blu-Ray - early indications are that Blu-Ray will "win" the format war. Problem is that the half-decent movies amongst the 200+ films on Amazon at present are mostly re-releases of stuff I already own on DVD, and since I have an excellent DVD player and screen, the 'jump' in quality just doesn't justify the cost of buying the movies again, particularly at the ridiculous inflated prices being asked. Also, if Blu-Ray does win, many will buy a dedicated player rather than fiddle about playing movies on a console.

So in the end it comes down to the games. If you have a 360, there is no really point in buying a PS3 yet. If you don't own a 360 the arguments to buy are stronger, but still not compelling.

Roll on the quality PS3 exclusives and strong online content - pull your finger out, Sony !!

Your PS3 should look gorgeous on your 720p/1080i LCD - the frustrating thing about PS3 is that it has fantastic potential and the content looks great. There just isn't much content worth running on it. Yet.

nooblet69 has it right - wait for the price drop, a few killer exclusives and some decent online content on the store, and then jump right in.ALl you're missing right now is Motorstorm, and you'll probably be able to pick that up on the cheap by then anyway.

If you live outside the U.S., the value of the PS3 right now is pretty questionable.

Not only is my PS3 not backwards compatible with many PS2 games that I have, but the online store sells...pretty much nothing, to be honest. I've been waiting months for some of the PS1 classics to appear at the online store, but no luck there, and there'slittle of interest at the moment. My PS3 is gathering dust while the XBOX 360 with it's fantastic games library gets daily use.

New Blu-Ray movies (other than expensive upgrades of movies I already have on DVD) are thin on the ground.

Overall, the only thing I use the PS3 for is the excellent "Motorstorm", plus being told to update my machine pretty much every time I switch it on.....

Sony will I'm sure catch up over time and start making PS3 ownership worthwhile, but I made a mistake buying a PS3 at launch, and it still wouldn't be worthwhile now. Maybe if I didn't have a 360 more of the games would be of interest as I wouldn't already have played them.

Everyone seems to have more than enough stock in the UK - they've been pushing pre-orders right up until yesterday, and now there are machines on the shelves. Amazing when you think back to 360 and Wii. Depending on your perspective, Sony either did great in getting enough machines to market on launch day, or it's been a terrible start.... Compared with 360 and Wii there was next to no excitement last night, and it's amazing that people joined the line shortly before midnight yesterday in London's Virgin Megastore and still got a free TV - lines were really short there and everywhere else.

Me too - Play.com allegedly shipped on Wednesday, but no sign yet. I think Parcelforce are supposed to deliver, and apparently it left the Parcelforce depot in the early hours. Maybe they got lost. or someone ripped off the shipment.......

If you're in the UK, go to the following link to see which PS2 (and PS1) games should work on your shiny new PS3...

http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htm?generation=PS2

No "Guitar Hero" on that list, which is causing me significant pain....

Enjoy !

The PS3 thread entitled "Why ?" discusses why people are unhappy with Sony, and it's got nothing to do with "Fanboyism", jealousy or similar and everything to do with their attitude to the customer and worsening quality control.
