Us gamers are a fickle bunch

I've been gaming for over 20 years now and there were times when I just had enough of all the same **** been spilled out by developers. Every game started to bleed into the same game. Shoot or beat up the bad guy. Some where along this road of gaming we lost our way. For me games were fun and adventurous. I used to get excited at the prospect of returning home from school to latch onto whatever controller I used for whatever system i had at the time. Be it console or pc. I think when gaming wasnt a mainstream money making machine it had an innocence and creativity that is lacking to an extent these days. One could argue that eventually the creative juices that flow can dry out from time to time. I agree. Its in these times where I found myself bored with the gaming world and turned elsewhere for entertainment. At the moment we are flooded with more of the same shooters and rpg's. Sports titles that are inclemently upgraded every year never added anything new to the puzzle. Most games are too afraid of exploring new grounds as they are afraid of frightening off the masses. But every once in a while there are gems that one comes across. This keeps my interest in gaming alive. These games are nearly always brought forward by independent developers. Creative people who have got nothing to prove or lose. Just like game creators of old. They did it for the love and enjoyment of their field of craft. Games like Portal, Braid, Limbo and VVVV were the last few games I have played that showcased a love and care for the product. Now I'm no fanboy. I cant stand fanboys with their ridiculous loyalty to a preferred platform. I'll praise the games that are created not the platform that holds them. For me personally Nintendo games have had the most memorable games in my lifetime followed closely by games that I played on my various Amiga platforms. I remember being 16 years old coming home from school at lunch time just so I could play The Ocarina Of Time. Playing the original worms on the pc with my friends. Playing a demo of Carmageddon for hours into the early hours of the morning with friends. Spending an obscene amount of time with Goldeneye multiplayer and ditching my college exams in order to beat my friends asses at Mariokart 64. Those feelings of sheer joy and amusement have rarely emerged in the last 10 years. Is it that I'm verging on 30 years of age? Maybe. But more likely that the industry has gotten so big an money hungry that it lost its innocence.
