As I have recently picked up and dusted off my DS after a few months, I start to play Crono Trigger. As I am playing it, it brings something to me that I haven't felt about games for a long time - that urge, desire to play the video game over doing other activities. Mind you, I am not a 28 year old married guy that owns a house and has a career, but video games have always held something near for me. Its that since of childhood mixed with just relaxing and NOT thinking. Crono is a great game - one of the best IMO. The point is, sometimes the new games just feel like they are trying to hard. Take Fallout 3 - great game, but absolutely enormous! I feel like I have to play it for 4-6 hours just to get anything out of it, unless I just go on a rampage shooting everyone I find in the head. But they do add a separate element of fantasy, which the old games did not since they were all 3rd person, and today's games are 1st person.
The point - and question - I am making here is: Did video games peak several years ago, with the SNES, Genesis, and the PlayStation?
