Might Leave GameSpot

Well the first time I tried posting this GameSpot glitched on me so this will be shorter.

Basically I just got back into things here, posting blogs more often and posting in the forums.

There is a thread created by a troll on the 3DS forums about black and white games. I came in to give my two cents and defend the other users. It went on and on. It should have been shut down, it just turned into the troll yelling at everyone and creating alt accounts to do the same once he was modded.

The guy even sent me a vulgar PM because of my posts in the forum.

So I responded in the forums harsher than usual. I have always been a respectful user. I have never been modded, just had a thread shut down in my early days because it should have gone in the recommendation thread.

But I was modded, and it was "just" a warning. But I'm dissapointed that they would support someone like that and I feel discouraged to post in the forums.

And if I don't post in the forums then there's nothing for me here. So I might leave.

I encourage you all to read the thread over on the 3DS forums about "crappy black and white games".

I have always been respectful, but this guy was trash and sent me a vulgar PM. And I was still level-headed, just harsher than I ever am.

Edit: I was modded again for something even more rediculous in the same topic. I am now taking it up with the mods.

If it's not fixed I am more than likely done here.

I Love P3P

I am of course talking about Persona 3 Portable.

Probably the game I was most excited to play for the PSP. I know its on the PS2 but I wanted it portable.

I absolutely love it. It's already easily in my top 10 games of all time, and more than likely in my top 5, and thats with about 25 hours in it so far.

I love the style in this game. I enjoy the traditional approach but that's what makes it all the more refreshing.

I'll be talking more about this game but I just had to put a quick blog up.

I gave it a 10/10. Only done that for Skyrim and maybe one other game. High praise.

I'm also changing my avatar for it. Only changed it twice before. That was for Skyrim and Kid Icarus. Also high praise.

Thoughts on the PSP

I'm just gonna give some general thoughts on my PSP 3000.

DESIGN-

Let's start here with the positive. It is very comfortable to hold and is surprisingly lighter than I expected. The size of it fits in my hands perfectly well. I really like all the buttons on it, the way they feel and how responsive they are. The face buttons are a little small but are very responsive. And the system's screen is gorgeous. I actually like the analog stick, it has a good range of motion and it's textured feel makes it easy to use.

However, the design of this system makes it not as portable as I would like. It has a slab design, exposing the screen for easy scratching. And the wide screen make this system too large to be pocketable. The power button on the side makes it easy to accidentally turn off the system while playing, depending on how you hold the system. And I suppose I should bring up the UMD drive. It is very awkward to insert the discs and then just close it shut, there isn't a lot of security to it. And the size of the UMD's makes them not all that easy to travel with, further reducing the portability.

6.5/10

WIRELESS-

It is extremely easy to set up the internet connection. It is also easy to connect to the browser, playstation store, and go online with games. This easy connectivity enourages the use or wireless play with games, which really expands what you can do with the system. The browser is terrible, but that's not a big deal. However, the PlayStation Store is fantastic. There are plenty of add-ons, downloadable full retail games, as well as PSone classics available. This has an easy to navigate interface.

8.5/10

GAMEPLAY(Graphics, controls, etc.)

The PSP boasts fantastic graphics, on par and sometimes better than PS2 graphics. This has allowed the PSP to take on franchises that not many people thought could be brought ot handhelds. This offers an exciting experience, but it can also be argued a handheld machine should not play console games but rather offer a different experience. That is the route the DS went. The machine's power often leads to horiffic load times. This is actually a pretty big downfall and is not convenient for on-the-go gaming. The analog stick does not offer the most precise controls, but it is certainly passable. As mentioned previously, the buttons are very responsive and are laid out nicely for comfortable use. PSP does a nice job here.

8.5/10

INTERFACE-

Sleek menu system, easy to navigate, easy to find what you're looking for.

10/10

OTHER FEATURES-

This is where the PSP had its big selling point and tried to make its mark. The PSP offers more than just gaming. It has a media player and an internet browser. At the time of its release no other handheld offered this, but the DSi came along and added these features. I don't much care for these features, but its nice it has them. The one feature I do love about the PSP is the PlayStation Store. This offers demos, add-on content, and downloadable games. The DLC is a big thing for me, especialy for games like Little Big Planet. The 3DS now offers the eshop, a similar feature in terms of what it offers, but that is a generation later. And I think the PSP might have done it better.

9/10

Overall I love the PSP and what it offers in terms of gaming. But like all systems its success is dictated by the games, and I'll talk about those later.

Score: 8/10 Not an average, only inhibited by the lack of portability due to the design.

My New System

During my life I have owned consoles from each of the big 3. A Wii, a PSX and PS2, and an XBOX 360. But I have only owned handhelds from one company, the Big N. Those include the Game Boy Color, GBA SP, DS, and 3DS.

This statement no longer holds true. I saw a guess of the PS Vita, but I did not choose that. Although I love the design, the library is not well established. And I already own one system with a library just starting to come into its own, the 3DS.

So I bought a PSP due to its well established library of RPGs.

I never supported the PSP because what it represented was not what I wanted in a game system. I don't want to listen to music, watch movies, or surf the web. I just wanna play games. And now the library is just about done growing, and I can play all the games I missed out on. And I don't have to pay a hefty price for all the "other things" it does.

One of the big factors in my decision was that I can support both the 3DS and the PSP. This is because the 3DS has a few releases out every so often that I want, and the PSP has a plethora of cheap games that won't eat into my wallet too badly.

Another reason I didn't like the PSP was due to the fact it isn't as portable as I would like, it isn't very pocketable. But now I can travel with my 3DS and play the PSP at home.

The games I bought are:

Lumines 2

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Wipeout: Pure

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

Persona 3 Portable

Dissidia Final Fantasy (one of the big reasons I bought the system)

And I plan on getting Spyro, one of my all time favorite games, and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII both very soon. I also want to get Little Big Planet.

I consider my purchase of the PSP an expanding of my horizons, not a changing of my ways. I still stand by my assertion that the DS and 3DS are better systems. But at the same time I enjoy the experiences the PSP offers.

My following blog post will be about my thoughts on the system.

Btw, I got a black PSP 3000 and a 2GB memory stick for $85.

And it feels wrong to have the username dsrules13 and own a PSP. :?

Buying a New System

Buying a system I never, ever thought I would buy. But it has tons of great rpgs and I can afford it, so I'm getting it. Not going to tell you what it is today but I will post about it in the next couple days. So be sure to check back here to see what it is.

I CAN GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE SURPRISED.

And my subsequent blog posts will be about my thoughts on the systems and the games I got for it.

P.S.- I am not selling any of to systems to fund it. I will now be playing my 360, the 3DS, and this...system.

Hey Guys!

Hey guys I haven't blogged in a while but here I am. This is my 75th blog by the way.

I was really busy with school at the end of the year, I finished in early June. So I've been on a little bit more now because I don't have so much to do.

Yesterday I bought Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. I didn't think I was going to buy it but I liked the gameplay footage and the gameplay seemed solid enough to get me hooked. I'm not a big time Final Fantasy fan but I love most of the songs I've played so far.

My team is Cloud as the leader, then Lightning, Cecil, and Squall.

Last night I beat my first dark note in the game. It was one of the easier ones but the Battle stage was still very tough.

That's all I really have to say for now. Just wanted to check in and put a blog up.

Have a great day. :D

Level 23!

I haven't leveled up in a while! :P

Anyways, I just posted a review for Kid Icarus so please read it if you haven't already.

Also, I just bought Tales of the Abyss 3D and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2.

Liking DQM so far, haven't played Tales yet.

I played the first dragon quest monsters game on the ds, but couldn't get into it. I'm hoping I can get into this one.

I'm still loving Kid Icarus and I'm getting pretty good at online play. I'm usually one of the better players in each match, but not always the best one.

I just got my Nintendo Power magazine with my Kid Icarus AR cards, really glad to have Medusa now.

Well that's just about it, I won't be able to get online tomorrow. But I have spring break this week so I'll be on a lot during the week.

Have a great day! :)

The Comeback Kid

"Sorry to keep you waiting," Pit says as he jumps into the first stage of his comeback. And what a comeback it is. The 3rd installment in the Kid Icarus, and first in over 20 years, does not disappoint. It delivers frantic action, robust multiplayer, over 100 weapons to collect and fuse in 9 different classes, an AR card battle mode, and many more unlockables and goodies.

The thing that sets Pit apart from most(not all) other Nintendo characters and mascots is the fact that he has a personality and a voice. Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong all have their own charms, there is no doubt. But each is a virtual manifestation of you, the player.

Pit has his own unique personality, and this is developed throughout the game through his constant banter with Palutena. Jokes are often cracked about things such as the economy, and there is even a hilarious Nintendogs reference. This banter is always enjoyable and interesting, never bordering on the annoying quabbles that Navi exchanged with Link. Throughout the chatter Palutena will often reference the past games in the series, such as showing pictures of the way enemies used to look. This light-hearted tone is refreshing, and lends itself well to the overall feel of the game.

The design of the enemies also contributes at times to the light-hearted feel. Enemy designs are ingenious, and even hilarious at times. One enemy is modeled after the eyes-moustache-nose disguise that you might find at a gag joke store.

But bringing down the enemies is the real fun. And there are myriad weapons at your disposal for this task. From the classic bows and blades to the bizarre orbitars. And they certainly had fun designing them. There is a staff modeled after a flintlock gun and a club modeled after the tower of babel. And they are just as fun to use as they are to look at.

In the "story mode"(that's not what its called but that's its function) there are 25 stages to play through. Each stage starts out with an on-rails flying segment and then transitions to the ground for a ground segment and it all gets wrapped up with a boss battle.

In the on-rails shooting parts you aim using the touch screen, move with the circle pad, and shoot with the L button. And this actually works extremely well. The air segments are my favorite. Ducking and weaving to avoid enemy fire is lots of fun, and these segments lend themselves well to my ranged weapon style. They are also simple in their ambition and execute well.

But the Big N's insistence on keeping this flightless angel grounded is where the issues start to occur. In the ground parts you also have to use the touch screen to control the camera. This is troublesome to say the least, and it is tough to spin and get a good look at your enemies. The boss battles also occur on the ground, meaning 2/3 of each stage is hampered by these controls.

But overall the controls can't keep this game down and just take some getting used to. Playing in shorts bursts minimizes the discomfort. And playing with the pack-in stand also helps.

As for the gameplay, it is frantic. Changing weapons to a club or claws can make the game feel like a 3rd person action game at times, and a straight up shooter with a bow or staff. Gameplay can become repetitive for some, but I never felt that way.

But the "story mode" is only a fraction of the fun in this game. The other major part is the multiplayer. Setting up a game is quick and easy, unlike some other Nintendo online experiences(ahem, *Pokemon*). There are both free-for-all and light vs. dark team-based games. The team-based game is a 3 on 3 affair, requiring teamwork to win. In the team-based game you will be forced to work with the inevitable 8-year-old. And in free-for-all you get to bash the brainless and bratty 8-year-olds, as well as all the other competitors. Good ol' every man for himself slugfest.

The action in mutiplayer is much more frantic, making the poor controls even more noticable and restricting. And if you're going to play multiplayer, you should probably adjust your play style away from ranged combat. Multiplayer just seems to favor melee attacks because if you're close enough to shoot someone, then they're close enough to reach out and club you to death.

But the creator of Super Smash Bros. Brawl wouldn't have been content to stop there, he needed more content. There is a fun but sadly simple AR battle system. It doesn't have much depth, but is a neat use of the 3DS technology. There is a trophy-like system with character and weapon "idols". And also an achievement system, which reveals a picture as you achieve things and provides you with in-game currency and weapons.

The amount of content in the game is remarkable, and Uprising really does feel like a console game shrunk down onto a handheld.

But the most impressive thing about all the extra features is that it takes what is essentially a stage-clear shooting game and turns it into the only 3DS game you may need to buy this year, provided you have Wi-Fi access.

The music in this game is top-notch and there is a music gallery in the game. The music is overall extremely beautiful and well done, setting the mood for each stage.

Addictive gameplay, amazing music, and also outstanding visuals. It's the whole shebang! The graphics for Uprising are not the best on the system, but they are impressive. And the bright and vibrant colors make it quite a looker.

In short, Kid Icarus: Uprising is a can't miss experience for anyone interested at all. I was highly skeptical at first, and found a game that will easily become my most-played 3DS game to date.

Hopefully Nintendo gives this flightless angel some wings and lets him soar for years to come.

Score: 93/100

Big Plans and B-Day List Stuff

So for my next blog I will be writing a review for Kid Icarus: Uprising. I have never written a review for this site, so I'm pretty excited.

I've put a lot of work into it, I hope you all read and enjoy it. I've reached out to AvatarMan96 and the 3DS Lounge Union to use the review for them as well and am still awaiting a response.

Look for the blog to be titled "The Comeback Kid", not "Kid Icarus Review". :P

After that I will probably do a blog for the one year anniversary of the 3DS.

You should all read @sebetai's blog on that. ^

My B-Day is one month from today. :)

I'll be asking for Kingdoms of Amalur, MLB 2k12, Sonic Generations 3D, Starfox 64 3D, and I'll probably put Final Fantasy XIII-2 on my list. There will be other things on there like a circle pad pro, 3ds pre-paid eshop card, and an xbox points card among smaller things.

Well, that's all for now. Please check out my review, should be up before the end of the month.

EDIT: AvatarMan96 has agreed to have a review posted on the union. So look for it to be up on there as well.

Pit is Back!

I picked up Kid Icarus: Uprising, which I had pre-ordered at GameStop.

And I absolutely love it so far. I was extremely skeptical and almost canceled the pre-order, but I am so glad I didn't.

The combat is frantic, the music is excellent, and there is so much to do.

And the controls don't bother me that much because I play the game in short bursts, so the discomfort is lessened.

This game has so much content for a stage clear shooter. Multiplayer that is both team-based and free for all, a weapon fusing system, AR cards and battle, 9 different weapon classes, and much more.

This game is going to challenge for my favorite 3DS game, but Super Mario 3D Land still holds that honor for now.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who is interested, don't pass it up.
