Oh yes, we were talking sales.

PC competitive games sales slaughter console competitive game sales.

What?

Name some current gen, "competitive" PC games that equal Halo 3 or MW2 in sales.

Tell me how MW2 is competitve at all. Competitve gamers scoff at it's very existence (like I said, rediculous weapon balance, killstreaks, perks, etc.). The last COD that was competitive was COD4 on PC with promod (no perk 1, stopping power perk 2, eavesdrop perk 3 (useless as nobody uses ingame VOIP for competition), 1 sniper per team, no ACOG, no Skorpion, no LMGs IIRC, etc.).

Halo 3? Well, it's more competitive than MW2, which says nothing at all. Yes, it has a small competitive gaming community, but any competitive gamer knows that PC is the home of FPS competitive gaming. Halo 3 competitive play will never reach the level of TF2, CSS, or even CS 1.6 for god's sake. Now add in lesser competitive FPS's (like COD4, which has fallen out of favor), and just about every RTS ever invented, and yes, PC competitive gaming trumps console competitive gaming by a longshot.

I personally don't like the idea of giving a game a perfect score. Perfect is possible to achieve with set goals/objectives, IE, you get a 100 on a math test if you get every problem right, no way around that one. However, perfect is subjective in gaming, although there is a general consensus of what is good and bad, just because the majority thinks something is good, doesn't mean it's perfect.

That said, with the new stupid .5 increment scoring system that GS implemented a while ago, the 10/10 score is a neccesity. If some games get 9.5/10, then games that are noticeably better must get a better score, what is a better score than 9.5/10? 10/10. Of course, Gamespot could just make 9.5/10 the new 10/10 (highest possible score), but that would eskew the public perception of the game. For whatever reason, there is a general consensus on what deserves a 9.5/10, 9/10, etc., so adjusting the scores just so no game gets a perfect score would be crazy. Similarly, the aggregate rankings of gamespot compared to other reviewers would be thrown off if GS (and possibly other reviewers) whom used a .5 increment scoring system made 9.5/10 the highest, making 10/10 unattainable.

My point?

10/10 is neccesary for the grading system that GS has adopted (.5 increments). However, if we just scrapped that system and went back to the old one, 10/10 wouldn't be quite as neccesary, if neccesary at all.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="gamecubepad"]The proof is in the pudding. Halo 3, MGS4, and SMG/SSBB can all achieve greater sales on an install base of 20million consoles than the de facto PC game, Crysis can acheive on an install base of 200million+. I'm not saying that PC games don't sell, or that they aren't profitable. I'm saying that consoles are the systems of choice for FPS. What a quantum shift. PC gaming is mainly for casuals. The "hardcore" base is smaller than that of consoles. Largely due to piracy. In the past, one dude at school would copy half-life and hand it out to all his friends. With the advent of broadband any fool can steal any song, movie, or game in 5hrs or less.Things have changed. Console games are a safer and more profitable investment for developers. Proof is in the install base vs sales figures. Just look.gamecubepad

There are few problems with your reasons.

Halo + MW2 on 360 alone crush all current gen PC FPS's combined in sales. Fact.

PC's are for casual games like The Sims and Bejeweled. Have fun with that.

Can you maybe use some paragraphs?

You have absolutely no experience with professional gaming if you think that only casual games are played on the PC. It's quite the opposite, games like MW2 end up being casual in the eye of a competitive gamers.

I mean, the entire genre of RTS is solely on PC, is used in competitive gaming, and in general (not just competitively), is nonexistent on consoles.

Not to mention any competitive gamer will tell you that keyboard (or keyboard surrogate, as in something like a nostromo speedpad) and mouse are far superior to any gamepad even on the coveted fad genre of consoles, FPS's.

Take your ignorance out of this thread.

Alright then, it's basically come down to this then, depending on my budget (not sure since I havn't finished my christmas shopping for others yet), if I buy 2 games my options are:

-Uncharted and Uncharted 2, my only worry is that if I don't get hooked into Uncharted 1, then buying two similar games would end up being a waste

-Infamous and Assassin's Creed 2, since they're both action-adventure yet both somewhat different, I feel safe buying them both as chances are I'll take a liking to at least one of them

If I buy 3 games, then:

-Infamous, Assassin's Creed 2, and Uncharted 1, and I'll pick up Uncharted 2 maybe during the springtime (I really don't have much time to play games, so they should last me until then)

-Or, Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, and either AC2 or Infamous, which would let me play through both UC games and still get a different action-adventure in there to satisfy most of my gaming needs.

Any opinions on these?

Well then, perhaps I'll hold off from buying a shooter for a bit then.

Anyways, how important is it that I play Uncharted 1 before Uncharted 2?

Anyways, any more opinions for or against AC2 and/or Infamous?

To cut the crap, I'm getting a PS3 this holiday season, and I was just wondering what you all thought were god games. I already have a PC, so basically I won't be buying any game that's availible on PC and on PS3 unless a) it's not released on PC yet, or b) it's significanty better on PS3 than on PC.

So, I lookd around (at the getting started with PS3, platform awards for 2009, etc.), and I came down to a list of possibles based on genre, reviews, videos, etc, as follows:

-Metal Gear Solid 4, it seems like it should be awesome, only probelm is that I heard that you need to play the first 3 MGS games to understand a lot of MGS4, so I was thinking I might hold off on it until I get around to buying the first 3 MGS games

-Uncharted 2, seems awesome, mmix of platforming as wel as shooting, seems like a little bit of everything, which I like. This is probably the only one that's I know I will be buying for sure (unles somebody can dissuade me from doing so).

-Assassin's Creed 2, I have playd a bit of Assassin's Creed 1, it was fun and cool at first, got boring quick though. However, the reviews for AC2 seem really good, so perhaps I should give AC2 a try?

-Killzone 2, seems to be the best PS3 exclusive shooter to date, I'm also intrigued by the multiple game modes in one game thing, and the reviews for it have been very good, so I might pick it up to satisfy my shooter cravings.

-Modern Warfare 2, The other choice instead of Killzone 2. I liked COD4 a lot on PC, and I'm probably gonna pick it up for either PC or PS3. Only problem is hackers+no dedis on PC, but I do prefer the keyboard+mouse combo over a gamepad. I'm also not a fan of some of the kill sreak awards (read: Nuke), but otherwise, it looks like it'd be a decent MP shooter. So I'm not sure whether I should get this for PC, PS3, or not at all.

-Infamous, looks like a cool action-adventure with long gameplay (the review said 30 hours on first playthrough?), also, the guy controls electricity, how isn't that badass? This is pretty much competing with AC2 for the spot of Action-Adventure.

Basically, to sum it up:

-I'm 95% sure I'm buying Uncharted 2

-I'm getting either Killzone 2 or MW2, leaning towards KZ2

-I'm geting either Infamous or AC2, leaning towards AC2

-The wild card is MGS4, it would almost be a surefire buy if it weren't for the fact that I don't want to play through without background on the MGS storyline

Also, I'm not interested in RPG games. As 1) I find them boring, and 2), I've played a bunch on PC already (notably Fallout 3 and DA:O). So I'm sticking with the Action-Adventure and Shooter Genres. Normally I'd include a driving/racing genre, but I'm realy unimpressed with the offerings this year (Dirt 2 doesn't look too good, I've played NFS: Shift and it isn't that good), I'll porbably pick up Gran Turismo 5 when it comes out next year though.

Any opinions on which to buy?
