Fallout is really good. The main quest is short, but I found it interesting. The ending is somewhat annoying, but the side quests make the game great. Fallout 3 is one of the best rpg's I've played, and better than Mass Effect.

Your computer looks good. Don't worry about getting the highest graphics possible, video and picture editing is more cpu intensive than gpu. Besides, with that card you could run most anything as it is.

If your just moving saves, there isn't much reason since they don't take up any space. Once moved, the game couldn't access them, it would always look to the wrong place. If it is the entire game you want to move, which should be in program files not my documents, many times you can get around editing the registry files. Try moving the program to where you want, edit the shortcut to open the .exe in its new location and see what happens. If you just don't want to look at the folder right click on it, go to properties and make it hidden.

I read that Crytek wasn't planning on making anymore pc exclusives after crysis warhammer, but were going to develop games with the idea of porting them to consoles as well. I'm not sure they did this just because of piracy, its probably more likely that they saw a large market and a lot of money.

Generally, on-board graphics will never beat a card. If you plan to do gaming you might want to get a better card. You can get this card from tiger direct at a comprable price to the 8500, and it will perform better. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4035118&CatId=1826

Make sure your motherboard will support this type of ram. Then, make sure it is seated properly and locked down.

Vista only "needs" 1 gig of ram to run though more is generally better. Depending on what you plan to do, 2 gigs would be fine. If you plan to do gaming or video editing, Vista is a power hog so you would probably want 4 gigs. If you're not going to do much of either, 2 gigs would do.

If your having problems with choppy gameplay, RAM is a good candidate for upgrade. 2 gigabytes is a generally the standard for gaming though in the case of RAM, more is usually better. RAM would be your cheapest option for speeding up your computer, and it would probably be the most effective upgrade without spending a good deal of money.

The AMD tri-core processor was developed as something to fill the gap between the quad and dual cores. They originated as a messed up quad core, though now they are specifically designed as tri cores. Tri-cores are cheaper than quads but faster than dual-cores. They probably aren't directed towards the gaming crowd but rather the average consumer who wants the performance but can't afford the price of a quad. Also, AMD quads don't really stack up well against the intel quads due to a difference in architecture. AMD can use the tri core, something intel doesn't have, as a market niche.

Also, how much better are desktops for running the odd game on?

jono8192

It depends on the desktop. The reason desktops can be more powerful is due to better cooling, more space, and more power (you run off the the wall rather than off a battery) allowing the support of better and faster hardware. You can't really say how much better a desktop is than a laptop unless you can compare the specs. Desktops aren't necessarily better but they have the potential to be.

A high end desktop will almost always be more powerful than a high end laptop.
