In the game you can die... and when that characters dies they are dead for the rest of the story.
That's how I've been describing the game to people. I bought the PS3 and everyone's saying "Did you get MAG? Have you played Metal Gear? Did you preorder God of War?" "Well, I'm really looking forward to Heavy Rain..." "Huh? What's that?"
... and I pretty much just say it's very movie-esque. Then I mention Indigo Prophecy and again get the "Huh? What's that?"
I really hate to say this because I know how condescening and pretentious it will sound, and I hate to disrespect anyone that doesn't like the game, but really.. I think a lot of people won't like it because it's a slow-paced, intelligent, mature game. And I don't mean "mature" as in blood and boobies, but "mature" as in there's more to it than just running around shooting the "bad guys" and collecting goodies. It's a game for grownups. Now, that doesn't mean that any adult that dislikes it is immature or that nobody under 21 will enjoy it... I just think it's for people that are looking for more out of gaming than the typical shoot-em-up. It's like having the people that spend their time watching the new "Epic Movie/Date Movie/Dance Movie" tell you that The Godfather or Memento suck because they're too slow paced. I like fart jokes once in a while too, but it's nice to have something a bit deeper sometimes also.
It's just sad because devs try to do something that takes games to a new place and move the medium forward, but they won't do nearly as well as what Halo Umpteen/God of Killing Stuff will do... and when it comes down to it, companies look at the bottom line. Why take chances at innovation when the next "Shoot the Bad Alien Things" clone is going to make 50 times as much cash?
Or maybe I'm crazy, I dunno.

QFT, I totally agree with you!
I agree with this. I've been waiting for a good interactive movie type of game. From the demo playing the demo I can tell that I like how they create this dark and heavy atmosphere where choices you make seem to have a certain gravity to them. Also, I feel that having to perform more mundane tasks like pulling out some cash or a card really draws you into the character more so that when big stuff happens it makes it so much more moving. The fight got me pumped up because 1) It was so unexpected and 2) the button scheme made me feel frantic to hit the right button in time not get smashed in the face. I'm really looking forward to getting the full title.
