Tom's review was short, but I agree with it. I probably would of stretched to an 8.5, but The game isn't perfect, but I haven't played a perfect game yet this year. Everything feels rushed and unpolished, and Last of Us is no exception. The story, characters, and level development may give it game of the year, but the combat and AI is nothing to go crazy over. IGN and their perfect 10 rating was not deserved in my opinion, and if you average the ratings you are still looking at a game in the 90% range, which is about spot on.

@Psycold @efoxneo I also love it when Conan gets the other guy on his douchebag pronunciation of words.

As well as Conon's commentary on Lara's tight pants.

Games are starting to make the protagonist really deal with killing someone for the first time. Its something that is becoming a trend of displaying a characters reaction to death, and most of the time the person killed is done so brutally that it makes it a traumatic experience.

Far Cry 3 is another recent example. I wonder if its a game developers way of "checking the box" in accountability for the false claim that video games are making people more pre-disposed or desensitized to violence.

Either way, I have noticed the trend that games will display a horrid, brutal, personal first killing from the main character, then it jumps quickly to the killing of hundreds.

I personally do not feel that violent games create a violent person, but I cannot speak for everyone.

I own both systems, and If the PS3 came out first, I may not of owned a 360. I prefer the PS3 in many aspects (the controller, the system software setup, and the fact that a lot of add on accessories for the 360 come standard on the PS3). The 360 wins though because of the games that it has, and even though I pay for live, I can find enough people to play online. MGS4 was the reason I got a PS3 and for a blu ray player that was easy to update. If Sony had Gears of War for example, and didn't require all the installations and issues, I would say Sony by a long shot. So I am forced to play Gears 2 on my 360 and Little Big Planet (yeah, thats right) on the PS3. Both systems have their problems, and when multi-platform games are still coming out with tech problems on the PS3 I tend to lean towards the more reliable 360 versions. Graphics are too close for a contest though, both systems look great on my HD television.
