@gamerbum: Well physical designs aside the PS5 will be running 5-10 fps higher than the Xbox Series X while looking better graphically.
Why? Well its simple; developers only have the 1 SKU for the PS5 to worry about while for the Xbox they have 3 SKU to deal with. The truth is developers don’t particularly have infinite resources to throw at a game at a given time. Time in particularly is a constraint. When the game comparisons come out on youtube you will see what I mean.
This wouldn’t be first time Xbox lagged behind Sony. Its mostly always been this way anyhow.
@jenovaschilld: Its a very interesting situation with Xbox this time around. They are experimenting with new ideas which can be good; I think it will pay off in some form but it will be a bumpy ride along the way. I also think in general the Xbox brand will become something else besides traditional gaming.
gameindustry.biz looks to be a good place for more info. Ill keep an eye on it. Thanks for sharing!
@alastor529: Sony is forecasted to sell at a 2:1 ratio during launch.
Basically 2 PS5 will sell for every XSX/XsS.
The matter of fact is that Sony has had the lead for many years now. Dominating most of Japan and Europe in sales and brand preference. Not to mention the United States where it does see the most competition from the Xbox. Nevertheless the Sony brand is very strong globally and will outsell the Xbox.
Xbox can catch up with its new strategy but it will be over long term.
One thing I will say is that console developers and producers dislike developing across multiple SKU's. Apparently its a nightmare in comparison to developing for a single SKU. Remedy producer Sasan Sepehr as example tweeted the following after the Xbox Series S reveal;
"As a consumer, I love this! 😍
As a Technical Producer, I see trouble!!! 😒"
Obviously this depends on the developer, but generally speaking its a lot of extra work and some developers wont want to deal with it until the Series S proves itself in unit sales.
There is also the concern that the Series S will hold back the Series X. A good example of this would be the situation with Halo Infinite looking as it did could be that being originally an Xbox One title it would look more last gen than next gen.
There are many who argue (Including Phil Spencer) that PC developers don't have issues with developing across multiple system types so why should consoles. Well according to some developers I know Including youtuber/Ex EA game developer "The Cherno" developing games for PC and developing games for consoles is quite different because of the open nature of PC systems in general.
Time will tell how this will all develop. At the end of the day I think how much this will affect next gen games will depend on how well Xbox supports developers in making their games for the multiple SKU's.
@johnny0779: I think it will be very difficult for Sony to match the Xbox current offerings because Sony has a very specific way of doing things.
I think Sony (and Nintendo) will stick to what they do best with their exclusives, but in the long term I believe the Xbox will eat into Sony's and Nintendo's market share because of this very aggressive market approach from Xbox.
In general Phil Spencer is proving himself to be very wise. All he needs to lead with is a steady stream of quality games running well enough in his systems and he will mark many victories for Xbox.
