All I know is when I was in a community that was into BF2, that I was almost always on vent talking to them through it and not so much worrying about talking to people in-game. Chances are, the less required voip is, the less people are gonna use their mics.
I've played a hell of a lot of CoD4 on PC when it first came out, I rarely ever heard anyone use their mics in that and still rarely ever do. Mainly because there's nothing to say 99% of the time unless you're on some Hardcore server where everyone only lives once for the round.
It's not a Battlefield thing, it's just how online gaming is in general.

I hear you. I come from a Valve background so Im just used to hearing people chatting left and right. Could be a Valve thing. I got BF2 cheap and ditched it because it was a dead silent community for me. Got BC2 and its the same thing except I love the game.
Eh... I always felt BC2 didn't hold a candle to BF2 in terms of gameplay. I gave up on BC2, but still play BF2. BC2 is far too streamlined for my tastes. I prefer more open-ended gameplay that BF2 delivers upon.If you want teamwork, download the Project Reality mod. Just be sure to read the PDF manual before you start playing. :P Has a bit of a learning curve, but more teamwork and voip than u can ask for.
S.OB. I just downloaded 2 GB. PR but Im having this punkbuster error after 2 minutes of joining a server. It just kicks me from the server. This is also why I gave up on BF2 a while ago but I thought this would automatically be fixed.
