I think skate is a good game but the camera sucks. It just doesn't help the game at all. To me, I get sick playing this game because the camera just kind of floats with the player. I'm not saying that you have to have a behind the character view but this is ridiculous. I also don't like the idea of the "pushing" buttons. Just switch that to the thumbstick (still pushing maybe up 3 times) and it would be much better. To me, nothing beats actually going out and skating though. So all you people who talk about how "realistic" it is, the only time this game is going to be realistic is when they make you spend hours of your time just trying to learn to ollie and do a kickflip. I will check out skate but I just don't think it will be enough to knock off TH from the skateboarding mountian.
I think you are going to have to look at the Skate/Tony Hawk game comparisons as we look at racing games. There are sim racers and there are arcade racers. Not to say one type is better than the other (even though tons of people will voice their preference very loudly) but we just have to realize these are two different types of games. They may compete against each other in subject matter but the handling of each game is different. If you ask me, TH is teh way to go because if you find that you want a hard skating game to learn and take time to master why not just buy a skateboard and go learn and get some exercise while you're at it. Anyways, back on point. I think they will just both kind of stand on their own. Like NFL 2K did against Madden. TH has this huge following but skate will tap into a niche market and not be the skating game for everyone and hopefully they continue to make them like that. Choices are always a good thing when buying games.
