If you think that its the type of game you like (stealthy, deep story, alot of movies, some of the best directing) then I would definatly play the other ones. MGS for ps1 is sort of difficult to find at this point but despite the old graphics it is still a good game. If nothing else I highly suggest MGS 2 and 3 first, and in that order. You need to know the back story and style of game in order to really enjoy it for what it is. hope that helped.
