If you prefer games such as canasta and shuffleboard, you may want to pass on Gears of War. However, if you've ever held a game controller in your hand you're doing yourself a favor if you buy it.

The rumors I heard were that the 65 nm chip was indeed supposed to run cooler than the previous chip that was in the 360. Of course, this same set of rumors maintained the idea that overheating was one of the main reasons for the failure of so many of these sexy, off-white consoles that we all know and love. I also heard the rumor that some or all of the Halo 3 360s had the newer chip in them, didn't hear whether or not any other models did yet or when they would.

I couldn't help but get the halo 3 360, and just to be safe I bought the "NYKO intercooler EX" to help keep the console cool and (at least in my mind) help prolongits life. I don't know how this will pan out in the long term, but for the past two months things have worked flawlessly. Also, after playing Gears of War single player for over an hour, my current setup keeps my console surprisingly cool. It gets no warmer than the laptop on which I'm typing this entry. I don't know if this will help you, but I don't think you could go wrong with the halo3 or elite consoles.

Anyone out there had a bad experience yet with either of these models?

Have patience. Good things come to those who wait, and all that. As my friend Shobert always says: "Don't worry, you'll be good."

I'm in the same boat. I can't get high speed internet where I live so i'm forcibly confined to offline play. I only recently jumped on the 360 bandwagon and my library consists only of Call of Duty 2, Halo 3, and Gears of War. That being said, this small group of games, played only offline, has given me some of the greatest gaming in all my years as a console jockey. You already have the 360, keep it; unless you've played all the games in the library and aren't interested in going back to any of them.

Then again, a question that you must ask yourself is, do you still enjoy offline gaming at all?? If you can honestly answer "no" to this question then you should probably find yourself some way to get back online, or else just find a new hobby that will benefit you or your community. Distance running and volunteering, eh? Why not??

Trauma Center: Life in the ER is a neat title. Don't forget about the library of GBA games like FF Tactics Advance, Zelda: A Link to the Past, etc.

Alfred Ashford - Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

One thing that the Resident Evil franchise could haveforever done without is an androgynous, whiny, imperialistic little prick who fancies himself a military badass.

Here's my take:

Halo 1 and 2 both rock.  There are a great many shooters out there that I have not yet played and I must agree that the Halo games are not perfect.  However, I cannot deny the feeling I have when I exit the dropship on the beach in Halo 1 or when I emerge onto the winter battlefield as the flood swarm around me in Halo 2.  I have been gaming for a long time and have played many games, but over time my desire to play most of these games has waned and I've traded them in for the next great title coming down the line.  Halo 1 and 2 are special because they are the games that I have never even considered trading in because I always end up coming back to them.  They are fun to play, challenging enough to keep me interested, and they never seem to get old.

Do they live up to all the hype?? Maybe not, but then again what game could??  If you think them "flawed" or "overrated" then don't play them, and spend your money on whatever trips your own proverbial trigger.  As for me, I'm happy I bought them and I'd buy them again.

Do some homework.  Look at the games available for the PSP and see how many of them you really want to play.  If the games currently available justify purchasing the PSP, go for it.  However, 2 other things to consider:

1: You might want to hang on to the DS in the event that someone releases a title that might meet your shooter needs.  It would stink to get rid of it now and be left pining away for it later.

2: If you are planning to WAIT for more good games to come out for the PSP, you might be disappointed since its future does seem to be more questionable than that of the DS.
