See, the way our criminal justice system is supposed to work is that we have these things called "courts" and "evidence." I don't care what country they are citizens of.
Problem is, there have NEVER been U.S. trials for POWs or "enemy combatants". There weren't exactly U.S. trials of German and Japanese prisoners after the war. There were the Hague trials for the Nazi leadership, but that's the World Court, and nobody at the World Court wants to touch trying these people. That's what makes this whole "I can't believe we're not extending Habeas Corpus to the prisoners at Guantanamo!" so silly to me. They're NOT U.S. citizens! They've never even BEEN in the U.S., how could they possibly be tried by "a jury of their peers" here? Literally the first time they'd ever have been in the U.S... would be to go on trial.
This is an "image" move only. Barack's not dumb (which is why I voted for him), he'll just move the prisoners to another location and set up an altered version of military tribunals. Which is going to make a lot of people go apesh--, for one reason only... they can't imagine that Bush did ONE SINGLE THING right. As a result, Obama's going to take tons of useless heat because he's not going to roll back every single thing Bush ever did. Which will be quite stupid. But, alas.
