One of my biggest pet peeves has got to be overhyped games selling more than awesome games. The main reason this has hit me harder than usual is because of Modern Warfare 2 selling 4 million copies in 24 hours. Meanwhile Uncharted 2 struggles over the 1 million mark. Or maybe it's because the Call of Duty fanboys have already started to (Female dog) about sales on Youtube. To be honest, sales actually do have a big affect on how people receive a game. They think that if everyone else bought the game then it must be good enough that they should buy it too. Another example is when a long running series like Call of Duty or Halo gets to its peak and then the enormous fan base buys into the hype and buys the new game. That is why Halo 3 ODST sold so much. The Halo fanboys eat that kind of stuff up like a Fat Princess being fed cake (Fat Princess PSN game reference). Same goes for the Call of Duty fanboys. Here's a quick list of games that deserved to sell more:
· Juiced (PS2)
· Bully (PS2)
· Red Faction Guerrilla (PS3, 360, PC)
· Uncharted 2 (Deserves to sell way more than 1 million in one month)
· inFamous
· Saints Row 2 (PS3, 360, screw the PC version)
· WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2010 (PS3 and 360 versions, best in the Smackdown VS Raw franchise, still not better then Here Comes the Pain though)
· Godfather II
And the list goes on and on. Of course, it's a tough economy so I don't expect people to buy every game on this list. Although that doesn't explain how $60 MW2 ($70 for PC version) sold 4 million on launch day! Then again, half of the people who play Call of Duty are 14 year old 360 lovers!
Well it's almost midnight so I got to head to bed. Later guys
