Apparently, BP or British Petroleum, the big oil company who's trying to portray it's image as environmentally friendly, wants to dump more toxic waste from its oil refinery in Indiana into Lake Michigan. Specifically,54% more ammonia and 35% more suspended solids in the water annually. Yummy! Indiana is all for the deal, saying that more of these pollutants will not have an adverse effect on the lake. As a resident of Chicago and frequest drinker and bather of Lake Michigan's water, I find this decision beyond reprehensible. The Chicago Sun-Times has issued a boycott that I whole heartedly agree with and urge all of you to adhere to until BP agrees to stop this. Hit them in the pocketbook folks and visit some of your other gas stations, even if they are a few cents more. Let them know that a corporation can't just dump it's waste into our drinking water.
