Ahhh...The 80's,Galaxia,Pac-man,Asteriods,Tempest,Rescue,Time Pilot, Simple games where there is only one objective, and great story lines with real actors.Like Star Wars Rebel Assault 2, Simple games where you shoot saucers and jump over volcanoes like Moon Patrol, Waddling across a crowded street like Frogger,Jumping over barrels while a Gorilla beats his chest and holds a screaming girl hostage.
Holding A rifle and shooting as many ducks as possible.participating in a martial arts tournament where you jump in the air with a flying kick and you hear a voice call out "Winner".Now games have complicating mazes and searching for objects and hiding for half of the game, complicating graphics where every move you make with the joystick flips the camera angle and your character makes all these eratic movements.Dark hallways where enemys hide and kill you in an instant, many games i have returned because i lose every time I turn on the power button of the game console. And also when you shoot at an enemy in the head and all it does is make his helmet fall of his head and you face 3 enemys at a time with only 10 bullets in your gun and it takes 4 bullets each to take the enemy down,
Wandering around searching for different trinkets,Just a slight tap with your joystick and the aiming goes to the ceiling, Seems like simplicity is somewhat lost in trade for graphics that take forever to load and sometimes dont load at all.I do realize that times do change and with that change, Games must evolve. It just seems that the simple essence of gaming has somewhat been lost.Sometimes I will dust off the old Atari 2600 and insert a game cartridge and a simple triangular ship will pop on my screen and 1 dimensonal rocks will float towards my ship and all I have to do is start shooting the rocks.I do realize that this would appear boring and tedious to todays gamers,But with me growing up in the times when John F.Kennedy was shaping the world when you went to a penny arcade and you could spend an afternoon with one quarter manipulating a steel ball in between two flippers, Sometimes yearn for those simpler times. This is just the rants of an old time gamer that still enjoys gaming and I can still find a trace of those "good ole days" in todays games.Thank You for reading these words.
