[QUOTE="Rhazakna"]

The DPRK has-literally- the most controlled economy on Earth. If this wasn't true, the crushing poverty they live under would be far less, if they would even be impoverished at all. Sanctions don't have the power to destroy an economy that isn't entirely controlled by a dictator.

Rhazakna

Authoritarian regimes and fundamentalist regimes thrive on privation.

Your view is that they're starving because they have an authoritarian regime.

Mine is the opposite: They have an authoritarian regime because they're starving.

...Except the authoritarian regime is the thing keeping them in a perpetual state of starvation, so that's a very stupid opinion. If the DPRK had a less controlled economy, the starvation would decrease. If the North Korean populace was better fed, there's nothing to suggest that authoritarianism would decrease. The ideological acceptance of existing power structures would remain. Millions of Chinese are no longer starving, and the government isn't really any less authoritarian.

authoritarianism has nothing to do with the economy. It is a social system not an economic one. you are taliking about socialism.

wrong. the word authoritarian has nothing to do with the economy. you are thinking of socialism, which IS an economic system.

authoritarianism is a social system just like libertarianism(cursed be its name).

The reason they are poor is because they live under the boot of a massively authoritarian regime.

Stesilaus

The United States government isn't a massively authoritarian regime ... yet.

:|

The reason they are poor is that their country has been subjected to almost total isolation and crippling economic sanctions for more than 60 years---the price they've had to pay for failing to embrace the puppet regime that the US installed in Seoul.

Read a little about the real, unabridged, verifiable history of atrocities that the US has committed against the Koreans HERE.

The [Korean] War destroyed by bombing most cities and villages in Korea north of the 38th Parallel, and many south of it, while killing four million Koreans three million (one-third) of the north's residents and one million of those living in the south, in addition to killing one million Chinese. This was a staggering international crime still unrecognized that killed five million people and permanently separated 10 million Korean families."

Bragging about the massacre, USAF Strategic Air Command head General Curtis LeMay, who blanket-bombed Japan in World War II and later ran for vice president with segregationist George Wallace, summed it up well, "Over a period of three years or so we killed off - what - twenty percent of the population."

You say that as if an authoritarian regime intrinsically bad.

if that is how you feel i disagree.

Well, I know never to take anything you say seriously. Thank you, I often have to read several posts to realize a user is a complete f*cking moron, but you've done it quite succinctly.

hmm, sad to hear that.

Regardless of whether all authoritarian regimes are bad, clearly this is obviously way worse than most because of authoritarianism.

in the case of NK yes the authoritarian regime is quite horrid in the extreem. However i don't believe situation in the NK is problem based on the "what" of goverment but rather the "who". Proper authoritarian governments should be technocratic meritocracies at every level which NK is not. in fact NK is the worst type of authoritarian government which is to say hereditary.

[QUOTE="NEWMAHAY"]My friend is Korean. She was telling me about the stories of people who escape. North Korea sounds like a horrible place. I really feel bad for its citizens. I will check out the video later. Rhazakna

Horrible? diffrent, sure they are poor and they dotn have anything but they are just peopel trying ti live their lives with the tools they have.

any sanction laid upon NK hurts them more than the glorious leaders.

really gives you something to think about.

"Libertarians are conservatives"

This is what Americans actually think.

Socijalisticka

Please Americans are hardly the only ones making this mistake.

Do i detect a hint of bias?
