Don't see the point of 3D yet. I'm quite happy with the way gaming is right now. Anyways, if 3d is really successful I think consolites will go for it, no pc gamers. Miroku32

[QUOTE="rogerjak"]Yes there is. A very fine one for the matter. And it's telling me this isn't has quite feasible as you are making it sound.

We need cheaper and more advanced tech (and no, plain LCD screens won't do the trip due to eye damage) to achieve this kind of immersion.

And PS9 is not possible in the near future, unless you know any kind of Super Secret High-Tech stuff we aren't aware of.

I repeat small LCD screens are not dangerous... they very weak light projecting product... remember those small LCD screen camcorder side in which you look hours... Its almost the same thing but refined...

And you look at them from what distance? Were're talking about 2 small LCD screens at the same distance you wear glasses!

... you talk without knowledge... those LCD screens are about five to six inches from eyes...

I wonder when people are going to notice that 3D and VR does not make games magically better.

I would much prefer better story, characters, dialogue, physics etc, as they are what actually makes games better, not 3D.

Dont you guys (person who started this topic) watch popular science fiction tv shows/ movies? Inorder to have the proper virtural realality, you need to be put into a device that hooks up to your centrail nurvous system so that you can be brough right into the game, you feel everything your character feels, you see and hear and smell everything it does.... and you even die when it dies. Best-gaming-experience-EVER!

In all seriousness, the technoligy just isnt there yet. If it were to come out today I promise you it would be way more expensive than the most expensive gaming pc. 3D and 3D TV's (for gaming)are still considered gimicks and hasnt been around long enough to experience any reasonable success. Lets wait another 15 years before we talk about your idea or my joke above.

.... You know... I work in the multi-media shere in Montreal...In 2005 I was writting here under Swirler that the PS3 will go stereoscopic... but people like you with no knowledge was saying the same thing that you said that the technology wasnt there... NEWS!!! those technologies are there since a long time... but with today cheap and good electronics it can now be mass marketed...

Really? Do give us proof.

a proof?... I dont keep screen shots of discussion of 5 years old... The only prove I can give you is that the PS3 is now a stereoscopic device... It miss only one peripheral to give a second life two PS3... VR headset... Xbox360 can probably do it too...

[QUOTE="AmnesiaHaze"]

how about LCD rooms where all walls would be 3D LCDs even the floor , that would be the ultimate VR like almost like a holo deck :D ,

ianuilliam

...It would be nice.. but not realistic...instead of two small lcd screens to have a complete virtual experience...

VR needs to skip the stereoscopic headset and just wait till 3-d holographics are feasible, and go with a holo-deck (Star Trek: the Next Generation) type of experience.

...holographics will never be consumer available before hundred years... You live in fantasy... stereoscopic headset are the only way to have the most immersive experience... You are joking with star trek?...right?

First... its not wireless... it can draw its power from the wall... for the video... hdmi modified connection to the headset.... Secondly... its not made to walk around with it... the headset is not something sealed around your eyes... you can merely see on the sides... Thirdly.... the cost of two small lcd screens and some little plastic pieces to hold everythings... not too costly...a price of 199$ should be possible...

Kickinurass

So... its wired to the wall and the console? Sounds cumbersome. And if you're not walking around with it and it's not sealing you off from the environment, what exactly is the point? Second - its not just two small LCD screens. It's 2 small, HD LCD screens - two cameras (for whatever reason you want cameras...) a power cable, a modified HDMI cable (Not even sure what that is) with the necessary components to actually get it to work - and let's not even begin to talk about the manufacturer's mark-u. Aand for what? A device that doesn't even offer true immersion - has you yourself stated it doesn't seal you off from the real world. This is easily replicated on the PC with multiple monitors, a powerful GPU and one of the many head tracking devices for the platform. And I'm sorry - I don't think $200 is right for a peripheral that really won't improve my gaming experience. and apparently most of the people here feel the same.

old television sets and computer monitors with photon cannon were bad.... but new lcd screen are harmless to the eye...

fredthekeb

No, they are not. Especially stereoscopic ones that sit directly in front of your eye. :|

you have a very limited vision of the thing... its just two small HD LCD screens with power and video cables... nothing that cost more than a console... nothing to compare with your PC setup that will cost many thousands... Its also doing more than your pc setup... if you want to look aroud in your game you have to turn your head, not looking at fixed screen... looking at fixed screen does not put me in the center of the game...

... The technology is already here... games are already made in stereoscopic vision(PS3)... and they already sell moves tracking device... its all you need to have a real virtual experience.... forget your star trek fantasy...
