[QUOTE="usmcjdk6"][QUOTE="freeload"][QUOTE="grayfox_2k"][QUOTE="freeload"] A muslim is using Gamespot to preach about some religious place, and then tell me why it is sacred etc, and how some other muslims will be annoyed that it is in a game. Teh_Bob
:| come on i haven't been preachy at all, granted the thread took an offtopic detour for a couple of pages, but i don't think it's wrong for me to note this tidbit about MGS4... i mean if anything it got some people even more excited to see how Kojima is going to incorporate a backstory for the place.
in other words i'm sorry if this thread has pissed u off in any way but in the end we're only discussing a game-specific aspect if MGS4... if it's the title that bothers u then again sorry :P just wanted something to grab everybody's attention
It pissed me off because it's small seeds like this that drive people to wars and hate and violence and killing.
One person says how another has offended his religion and then suddenly thousands back him up and thousands of others disagree, because they believe something different, and then none of them will back down because they all believe they are right, and then the only conclusion they come to is that they need to control and kill those who don't think like them, and they use the excuse of religion and the words of their gods to do so. When I can tell you for a fact that most, if not all (I wouldn't be so presumptious as to say for a fact that no one ever talked to their god, because who am I to say) have never even talked to these supposed gods to get any real take on the matter.
It wasn't an issue until you decided to make it one (even if you don't actually think you were doing anything) and now look where we are.
Why couldn't you and anyone else just have left it alone and let it be, then you wouldn't beannoyed and I wouldn't be annoyed and we could all be happily talking about games, like we should.
I don't preach my beliefs at anyone, until they try to preach theirs to me, however they choose to do so (even if they don't realise they are indeed doing so) but when they do, well then I get on my liitle high horse and say.
Religions kill.
Stop them ALL.
Just live life as a good person and that is the bestany REALGod would ask of you.
That's my religion. That's the word of my God. As spoken from his very own mouth...my own.
This is a scary enough world as it is, and hard enough to live in happiness and peace and love, without people bringing the fear of unknown religious expressions into it. Who knows how some trully religious muslim may act to seeing their supposed sacred city being portrayed in a videogame in such a way. Is it possible that there is a guy out there now strapping a bomb to himself who is going to run up to Konami's headquarters and blow everyone up, just because he trully believes his God wants him to do so, because they offended his religion.
I dunno, but it should never has been raised by any man woman or child in the first place, for it to ever be even remotely a possibility, and that is how dangerious religion is.
Your topic frightens me, because I know there a billions of people out there who may take it even more seriously than you, and may kill for that belief, and that is why it shoud be locked.
That is why there is no place for it in a video games forumn, because even though some naive people think videogames are all about killing and violence, they are not, they are about fantasy and escapism and imagination.
Religion is a whole other game...
Stop funneling this discussions like it's his fault. The Muslim community has gotten much more out of control over smaller situations than this. This is not only a valid discussion, but a valid concern. Kojima should rethink 'Medina'. Really, that's retarded. EVERYONE KNOWS IT WILL OFFEND A CERTAIN PEOPLE - case in point...right here. I won't be suprised in Kojima gets his pants sued off that the Dane comic artist did.
And christians don't over people saying "happy holidays" instead of "merry christmas", or in a videogame hot coffee?
If I wrote a game in which jesus commits a sex act with another man christian right wingers would go nuts. What is offensive to one person is not to another and people should respect that whenever possible as long as it doesn't comprise the integrity of the work. I'm sure it would not have been a big deal to move the setting to another setting.
Thats just my opinion
The point is that once we start going down that road we might as well not do anything because there will always be someone somewhere that will be offended.
I would be more offended at the fact that we are restricting peoples freedom of expression and creativity for example, than that we are offending anyone's religious beliefs.
Who is more important, who is correct etc?
I dunno.
Should we all just go to war and kill each other and then the last man standing decides.
