no podcast today (or new systems)

I'm breaking the tradition and not doing one this sunday night, too much has been going on!
I camped out for the PS3 starting wednesday night, it was a crazy experience. People say I'm stupid for campign out or whatever but I tell you this, in four years I'll remember what I did those days, will you? No, you went to work or school just like every other day and it will blend with the week before that after a month or two, but not me, and in the end, all we have are the memories. So anyway after that I fell asleep playing witht the PS3 friday night aroudn 4 all the way to saturday afternoon and then I went to a midnight release of the Wii staruday night! :)

If you dont have any of the current gen systems (Starting today Wii, 360, and PS3 are the current generation) here is my advice (I have thought about this A LOT and would gladly talk for hours about it if you want to):

If you have an HDTV or can afford one: Get a 360 for sure! And if you have any interest in movies at all pick up the HDDVD player with it. If you really like games go ahead and get a Wii as well, if you are crazy like me and need all the systems get a ps3 too.

If you don't have HDTV or are not interested in it: Get a Wii for sure! If you really like games get a 360 on top of that, and the next time you need to buy a new TV I hope you will be forced into the 21st century since they will only sell HDTVs eventually but untill then you'd be nuts to get a PS3.

Obviously these are general rules and there are exceptions, such as someone who doesnt really like the videogame industry but is willing to spend lots o bucks to play Devil May Cry or some exclusive to one of the systems and fanboys.

Podcast Number 2

Podcast 2 - I made another podcast!
If its good I'll try to put one out at least every sunday.
Topics include: Gears of War, New consoles, and High Definition DVD.
Disclaimer: The views and opinions in this are mine and do not represent those of anyone else.
Music: One of the songs is "Mad World" covered by Anthony Field who was nice enough to put some music on the web royalty free. I want to try and move away from "real" music because I have a feeling its illegal.

The Horde versus The Alliance

The Horde Vs The Alliance. The greatest rivalry in gaming. I want to get to level 60 for the expansion. Should I go with my level 27 Night Elf Druid, or level 32 Undead Warrior? On the Alliance is the guys from my work, on the Horde is my brother and my old D&D buddies.

I can't believe I didn't know about this!

http://www.gametap.com  Sign up immediately and use the code NCTA to get a free month trial intead of only two weeks. What are you trying? A program that connects you to a bunch of great games, basically, some of the best games ever made!
Crazy Taxi, Elevator Action, Street Fighter 2, Baldur's Gate, Earthworm Jim, all the Kings Quests, Space Quests, Sonics, and Streets of Rages to name a few. If you've played games in your life I'm sure you will find games you forgot of and think "OHHH THIS GAME!!!??" and two hours later you are still playing competing for a high score on their leaderboards!
If you have a wired 360 controller plug it into your computer and windows XP can go online and automatically get the drivers and all the games work perfectly with it I've tried so far.

The reason I checked it out was because they recently were able to rerelease an amazing game called The Last Express through it. Never heard of it? I'm not surprised. After five years in development, led by legendary game designer and award winning writer/director Jordan Mechner, the company, Brøderbund, was practically belly up. It didnt help that at the time (1997) games were being lumped into categories based on gameplay mechanics rather than setting/story, and this one happend to fall on the "adventure" shelf which was on its way out of stores to make way for new first person shooters.
The games characters were filmed in live action, and they used a technique called rotoscoping (painting over film) to give it a "art nouveau" style, which was popular during the time the game was set in. It starts July 24th, 1914, and ends at on July 26th, and plays out in real time. History buffs will note, this is the begining of World War I.
The games takes on, as you might have guessed from the title, the most famous train of all trains, The Orient Express. It was one of the first intercontinental trains, carrying passangers of all nationalities. It was the last time the train would run from Paris to Constantinople, due to damages from the war. Imagine a train ride with people who, boarding were at peace, but by the end of the ride your countries are at war with each other. Starting to think Halo's story ("Aliens took over Earth, attack them.") is starting to look a little thin? Yeah.... So join me and take the role of an American already wanted by french law, and meet the games 30 characters, who come from all of Europe, including a terrorist, an anarchist, a eunuch, and a concert violinist!

One Wii point

I think one thing people are missing is that the Wii is using cutting edge technology, just not to push the most polygons around. The Wii is using brand new chips to create a really small system that uses very little power so that it can stay on 24 hours a day. You know once a month when something cool happens on Xbox Live? I think they want that to happen every day.
There might be a new post on your message board from someone in a game, telling you of a new area opening, or something you missed. Or maybe its just a message from your friend with a cool pic from the concert he went to over the weekend. Maybe its just something you read on the news channel. Maybe it will have automatically downloaded a new Smash Bros trailer, who knows?
The point is the thing is always on, and these new things, that they have said they want to happen every day, is quickly available. You boot up your 360, theres a game in there so it takes a minute to even load up, watch the microsoft thing, turn on your wireless controller, pull up the hud (which can lag sometimes) messages, oh a voice message, let me grab my headset... Sound like every microsoft product you've used? yeah... I think if any menus or dashboards Nintendo has ever made is any indication, its not going to be like that, its going to be great!

Levels continued.

While checking the noob boards I quickly glanced through the stickied topics, thats strange, why do they have a Fire Emblem guide here? Meh, i went on to find the answer to my questions, which i finally found. You have to level up to post in the news stories, and you level up by reading news, posting in the forums, etc., just using the site. After a day or two of just being logged in while reading the sites was al I needed, I acn now post comments to news stories, which is why I started logging in in the first place. But forget about that, i'm addicted! Its just like achievement points, you do some things, you get rewarded. Of course the reward doesn't mean anything, but its can somehow still be addicting, in the end, how much does a level 60 orc warrior really mean anyway, but people still love getting it. Now I saw one of my friends profiles had some rad achievement like icons on the side of his profile, it wasn't a Fire Emblem guide back in the forum, it was a guide on how to get those Emblems in your profile!

Lets just conclude with saying I will be getting most of myu gaming news and watching the next big press conferences on Gamespot.

Gamespot Levels = Achievement Points

Allright so every time I read a news story on Gamespot I scroll down and see what people have to say in the comments. WHY!? I don't know. So after seenig tons of ignorant posts, and realizing that the newer posts are actually at the top, I decided I had some things to say. What was my gamespot login again? I've been surfing the web since back when people said "HTTP COLON FORWARD SLASH FORWARD SLASH" so I was sure to have one. Finally log in and whats this, I can't post comments on news stories?!?

To be continued...
