Yes the price is right for Gamefly, the only problem with them is the waiting times and lack of copies of new big blockbuster titles. Sometimes newer games you will want to play will be unavailable for weeks at a time on most occasions.

Gamefly works great if you don't want to just play newly released games, otherwise it's kind of a crap shoot.

You gotta be a little proactive about new releases. Get them in your queue before they release in the number one slot and you'll get them pretty consistently. Also make sure you have a space open for a game to ship when they release. I've screwed myself a couple times forgetting to do that. Otherwise you shouldn't have a problem. I log in all the time and check on game availability and usually manage to tweak my queue in my favor of getting what I want most of the time. If there's a really high demand title you might end up waiting a while for it but most of the time it's not unreasonable if you get in there and make it happen.

I might be stating the obvious here but 1 and/or 2 at a time doesn't mean you only get 1 or 2 games a month. It means you can only have that many out at one time. So, theoretically, you can go through as many as humanly possible.

Here's how I break it down.

2 games at a time plan costs 22.95/mo. or $275 for an entire year. Games cost $60 each. 4 games amounts to about what I spend on a year's worth of Gamefly. In that amount of time I go through a good 50 games. Now I don't actually end up playing 50 games. A lot of them get maybe an hour in the console before they get sent back. Some of them I rent for friends, etc... but the bottom line is I'm spending a fraction of what I would otherwise. And it hurts a lot less to send a lousy game back than it does to have bought it and be SOL or get a lousy trade-in value on it.

It's about exposure and variety. If you have multiple consoles all the better.

Apparently they're running a new contest where you text them a keyword they flash on the screen or something. It's to win a console. Has anyone seen it? Is the codeword the same every time? I haven't seen the commercial yet.

I always wondered about gamefly. I consider signing up but always back out.xmitchconnorx

In this lousy economy it's the only way to go if you're really interested in being able to play a good variety of games but don't want to shell out a ton of cash to do it. If you've got multiple consoles it's a must. For working stiffs like myself the old entertainment budget has been depleted. I wouldn't be able to play if I didn't have gamefly. Blockbuster's selection blows and they're expensive to add insult to injury.

I've actually kept track of what I've played and paid so far this year with gamefly. So far I've gone through 22 rentals since January. That includes stuff I sent back the next day because it sucked. I do the 2 games at a time deal and that costs $23/mo. Now if I wasn't so bright and just went out and threw down the cash for all that I'd be in the hole like $1300 if you figure games are about $60. Even if I bought them used for like half that I'd still be in the hole $700 give or take a hundred. You know what I've spent on gamefly for 6 months? $135.

I really don't think anymore needs to be said.

[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"]I don't really like any of the applications that are available in the iTunes store. I downloaded Winterboard and Scrobble using Cydia. Those are the two applications I constantly use.sammyjenkis898

There's like a bazillion apps on the iTunes store? You don't like any of them? That sounds really weird.

All the same, what's Cydia? I've never heard of it?

Cydia is an installer for third party applications. You have to Jailbreak your iPod to use it.

Meh, I think I'll stick with the iTunes store and keep my warranty in tact. I mean, there's only about a gazillion apps on there and new ones being added daily. What I don't understand is why these people making 3rd party apps don't just submit them to Apple and make some cash? Seems kind of self defeating if you ask me.

I'm just curious what people are downloading and thought I'd start a thread. I know there are the obvious ones like Facebook, Myspace, Pandora, Google... but what about some more obscure ones?

Here's my most recent ones:

Black Book (free)
Surprisingly on the mark restaurant, bar and hotel locator with reviews on places it returns. It's a little on the hipster side but the results and reviews are pretty spot on. It hasn't steered me wrong so far.

Wine Vintage Card (1.99)
One of the only wine apps that can be used in seconds. Title pretty much says it all. It's a vintage rating guide and it covers all the major wine producing areas around the world. It's unique in that it's emoticon driven vs. your typical number scale. Clever and very useful on the go.

Open Table (free)
Make dinner reservations, read reviews, etc. for most major cities in the U.S. I figure most people probably know about this one from the original website. I've been using them for years and now I can do it on my phone.

Smule Ocarina (.99 cents)
Total entertainment. It's a musical instrument that uses the mouthpiece as a mic. You can essentially play your phone like a flute. You can also listen to what other users are playing around the world. Kind of a surreal experience. Smule has a whole suite of similar apps. Very cool and clever.

I've never had a deep fried turkey... the last several years my family has been getting into "alternative poultry" meaning different game birds... Phesant, Goose, Duck, etc... I've always been interested in deep fried turkey though. How exactly does one do this? I mean, you need a ridiculously big vat of oil. Do you have some kind of drum outside or something?

Gamefly's great. I highly recommend them. They have four distribution centers now across the country so shipping times are no longer an issue. I don't wait more than 3 days for anything anymore. It's totally worth it and I'm going to guess the $6.95 intro price is the best you're going to find. Plus they really don't have any comparable competition anymore. You can also do the 2 at a time plan right now at an intro price of $9.95. Either way, it's a good deal.

Just do the math... if you do the 1 at a time plan you're gonna spend $200 for a year's worth of gamefly. That's about the same (give or take a few bucks) as buying 3 / 4 new games. You can play 30 or more over a year vs. 3/4. Plus you can send the crappy games back and not be out $60 like you would if you'd bought new.

Another thing you might want to think about is asking for gamefly gift cards for Xmas. Your timing is choice for that. That'll cut back on some of the expense. You can also trade games in with them now to offset the cost of your subscription so there are plenty of ways to save some cash.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that not all post offices offer fast return so it helps to try and find one that does (or a mailbox that's connected to one). Your local one might not but your work one might... just a matter of shopping around.
