Holy crap, my account's still active?

i'm surprised, really. I haven't logged in just over two years, and gs hasn't nixed my account...that's crazy. I got laid off in the market crash of november 08, and this is the first time i've logged back in. its not that i haven't gamed since then -the opposite really- when last i logged on, i had a gamerscore of 17,000. I just cleared 32,000 last week. I've been playing like mad, yet I've found virtually no need or reason to visit gs in all that time.

perhaps the site's time has passed. Because outside the occasional need to hit up an ancient strategy guide that predates the web, everything else can be found on youtube these days. and god knows their new-EST lineup of game reviewers carry the same rough amount of both talent and journalistic integrity as my garbage man.

i suppose i can still use the site for logging all my game ownership tallies, but otherwise i see little point in perpetuating the farce that anyone should care about what gs actually has to say.

mercs 2....oye....review in conflict

i logged on today to find mercs2 having received it's official review of mediocre at 5.0 and to be frank i smirked and got ready to let gamespot have it. i'd already begun an outline of my tirade beginning with their apparently broken review review staff, moving to the mistrust now thrust upon them by the gaming community at large, and finally culminating with ...once again... how instrumental many of the staff "replacements" have been in systematically half a$$ing what was once the premiere gaming news and reviews site on the interweb. Oh, it was going to be glorious!

but then, i watched aaron thomas' review.

i figured i'd better have all my ducks in a row if i was going to hammer this clearly idiotic and unbalanced review of a game i'm thoroughly enjoying right now. but here's the thing: aaron isn't wrong. now granted the man's a little jaded and usually strikes me as the most prospective employee of cbs to go postal and wipe everyone out, but hey everyone needs to vent. the point is every flaw he points out is in fact and -can- be totally annoying if you think about it too long. of course the bugs and glitches are more prevalent than too human, but not as bad as described. i mean good lord they're described like this game was ''alone in the dark'' coming home after a weekend bender in reno. and truth be told, it ain't that bad folks.

and truthfully that pretty well rounds the overall take away feeling i have with that review... "yeah aaron you're right, but the game ain't that bad."

now one point i will directly confront is all the whining about getting around in an open world. guess what people, you asked for bigger worlds, now you're going to complain when you actually have to traverse them?? pandemic was kind enough to institute a fast travel system, what do you want an effin' teleporter?

gun mechanics are sloppy yeah, but 1- it's a 3rd person shooter...it happens, and 2- a tight aim trigger was added which helps it considerably, plus try shooting an autorifle, and hitting anything ur aiming at, it's rough kids.

look all told mercenaries 2 isn't broken, nor is gamespot at large, but lightening up a bit might be in order.

just post the blog

mercs 2 is out and it's fantastic. it's well put together, retains the feel of the original, and is lots and lots of fun to play.

i already have 300+ achvmnt pts and everytime i blow something up it's sooo satisfying, and that's great. i'll review it soon, and i'm sure it'll retain a fantastic score.

but right now i could honestly care less. i wouldn't say i feel down, like really down too terribly often, and as far as i'm aware i can only remember feeling this way once before, but right now, this very moment my office building could collapse in an earthquake, eject my chair and desk out the 6th floor window with me still in it and it would make no difference to me at all.

i won't waste time or words loquating to some inane degree as to what has gotten me to this place. not under the pretense to assume no one would understand, as i'm not quite so conceited to believe my experience is solitary and unique, but because instead that my folly is responsible for my fate, and is embarrassing enough that i'll keep that to myself.

wow i have a skill in rambling when i'm emotionally crushed. that would help justify not explaining it further too i guess.

i want to go home, drink canadian whiskey on my deck, and smoke a pack of cigarettes. when i'm done i want to sleep for a week.

or more...yeah more. that sounds good. but i better do that mercs 2 review first and get that out of the way.

8.11.8 swimming relays are awesome!!

last nights olympic men's 4x100m relay was fantastic!! take that frenchies! hee hee.

the weekend was filled with grid and gears of war, and tv watching. and that was it. good and tired, and i'm goin home for more olympics tonight.

8.8.8 friday and the olympics? hmm....yeah, friday is more important.

i'm back into grid, and forza since they lifted their retarded ban. so a lot of racing the past few days.

i think i'll be watching some olympic swimming in hd this weekend. i hope. haven't checked the schedule yet. i should look into what's goin on with the unions real quick too.

oh and tomorrow i prepay mercs 2 in full!! huzzah!

8.7.8 so when is this bloody beta going live?

i have neither the time nor inclination to read up on when the beta goes live. i want a big advertising banner to scream the date out so loud i can't help but learn it. this is how lazy i have become this week.

i'm going to complete the mercs 2 prepay tomorrow to be done with it, and perhaps i might buy a new ms pts card. i'm debating. i know if i buy one i'll spend those pts on SCAMCO BANDAI's b.s. dlc for sc4.

anybody looked at the dlc list for sc4 so far? i haven't seen so blatant an attempt to rip people off since whatever the last game koei put out was! i'm sorry, u want 15$ for the original soul calibur sountrk?!?!? i'd like to meet the marketing rep responsible so i could slap him with a white glove and demand a gun duel at dawn.

that said i've burned thru most of soul calibur4's achvmnts in about a week since launch. to anyone thinking about it, don't buy that game. rent it. you can spend 5$, or a day's wait with gamefly, and get 600+ achvmnt points in no time. plus, unless ur a create a character crazy, the game won't hold much for you beyond a few days of playing.

...hmmmm, mebbe i should trade sc4 in on mercs 2. there's a thought.

Beta blast... hey that should be a new flavor of mountain dew.

so i'm blogging on the new beta format. it seems solid and easy to use, navigable, and still fairly intuitive and informative.

and that's great! it is funny tho how vaguely similar it all looks to another recently launched website. not over whelming at all...just enough to make you wonder.

anyhoozle, it looks fine, and is a definitive improvement over the previous...except my level experience bar looks cheap and chincy by comparison to the previous.

overall, i like it, and i guess we'll see how it turns out.

7.28.8 closing the book on july, and other things...

'hit 10,328g last night, beating mass effect on insanity. thanx to ETW on this one. had i not discussed it with him some months ago i never would have been convinced i could do it.

the month is ending. soul calibur 4 comes out tomorrow, but little else closes the month with any fanfare. i have obon fest this weekend in p-town, a buddhist congregational festival celebrating life. essentially it's a mass funeral for all members who died in the last year, but in eastern fashion it's treated like any asian festival, with music food arts crafts, and a beer garden. my dad's a member and he'd like his kids to visit....i'll pry be the only one to show, but i love asian culture so i'll be there.

august will also ring in some new games to come down the pipe. although truth be told i'm too tired to remember any of them just now....except for mercs 2 /august 31st baby!! wait that's a sunday...oh well whatever.

........and that's all the info this profile gets. gotta split my time after all. perhaps august will bring more GS staff on board that I can respect. i've been dissapointed in their inability of late.
