Joys of Halo, the plusses and minuses...

I have been waiting to play and finish the halo series for a long time now. I had my xbox the day it came out and found the joy of halo. I eagarly awaited the second one, then xbox live hit and halo was gonna be on it woooo! Sweet jesus i got it and it was good. I wasted many hours online, with friends and without, slowly loathing the community that rose up around it. The screaming losers and lil kids. People that sang and screamed obsceneties, but i dealed with it. I liked the game and got over it. Then time went on, i played less and less, and moved onto other games. Then my 360 came home and call of duty was on! It made me miss halo 2. Where was the awesome party system. Then i bought a gaming pc....

Oh my...Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2 and 2142, the MMO market and lots of extra shooters. I learned that the Halo 2 that i loved was a basic online multiplayer game! The online experience of Halo was just normal! It was not the ultimate, it was just the best for a console! Unreal had the same idea and played similair, but it was free to play online and had the option for massive battles! But there was something that Halo still had for me....story.

The characters, the finely paced singleplayer, the fun and entertaining missions, the over the top action that it breathed was awe-inspiring. I have been foaming at the mouth to finish this series, and then it was announced it would have 4 player co-op!!!! Woooo again! I have exactly 4 real life friends that will be playin also so we will be kickin it online together. I will playing alot of online Halo3, just don't look for me in a Slayer match. I have played the Halo 3 beta, and I have played the Call of Duty 4 beta, and CoD4 will be getting me for online matches. I will play the odd coupla rounds of online halo 3, but they will be temporary till my homies sign on to continue our co-op game.

Halo 3 will be fun, and I will play the crap out of it, but it will be against the hordes of covenant, the annoying community that follows Halo around will have to survive without me, lol I'm sure you guys will make it.

MY bright new shiny PS3!

Well i finally did it, i purchased a PS3. I recieved it and Resistance to play on it and would like to post my initial thoughts on it, later on in like a month i think i will posta more detailedof it after i have had my hot little hands wrapped around it.

Lets look at it out of the box: I recieved my new 60 gig PS3, its large and very heavy lol. I pull it out with some difficulty and laugh a lil inside as i pull out the AV cables. AV cables, really? Well, theres a quick trip to the store. I jump in my cavalier with my kids in the back and kick it to my local gamestop, they only have thier own brand of hdmi(grumble, grumble...) so i pick up some sony component cables to hold me over while i order a HDMI plug online.

Time to set it up: Ok, so I'm back home, the kids are eating lunch, and i am plugging the beast in. My poor xbox 360 gets its spot on my entertainment center taken and moved to a less spiffy spot. This is not betrayal, just the PS3 is much to large to fit elsewhere. Moving on, well ok, all plugged up and in, lets see it in action, i push the power button to see...nothing. What...i get no response from the console, the controllers little light is on and a blinking but the console is not responding, there are no lights on, nothing. I begin uttering curse words under my breath as i double check all my connections. I plug the power cable into another outlet. I blow on the plug-in prongs. I am close to calling Tech support when an image of a small black switch on the back of the console floats through my mind and i darn well kick myself. I flip the said switch, and its on finally.

First impressions: She boots up to what sounds like an orchestra warm up. Some fancy wave pattern floats by and i am looking at the media bar. I will not begin my critique of the machine, remember, this is all my early impressions and will give a more informed report later.

Media bar....6.8 outta 10: The media crossbar is easy enough to figure out, but i find there is to many options just right there on some of the tabs and you can become unsure if you should be messin with them. The boot up was hassle free and i got her runnin on my HDTV after floundering around in the crossbar till i found the "display" settings. Maybe my 360 spoiled me withe the blades for the menus, but this is very functional. I really enjoy that games and demos have individual screens that load up and play music before you select them.

Online store....7.5 outta 10: The store works well. A very annoying thing about it was actually setting up an account to actually see the store took darn near half an hour. The selection of downloads is all right at this point, but still a lil sparse. I really, REALLY, like the idea of downloading ps1 games, and i almost want a psp to take them with me. The original download games look pretty nice but i strike points off for the lack of all of them having a demo of some sort. These are original titles and who knows what they look or play like, or if they are any good! Maybe its a ploy to get PSM magazine but i would like to play the first level to see if i like the mechanics. I go out on a limb and download "flOw", which by the way, is pretty sweet lil gem so i am not let down on that one.

Controller....8.0: Well, it works, and its a classic design that I know from the past, but theres a couple of downsides. The controller is light. And i mean not heavy. Like quite possible that its full of helium. It feels like I'm playing games with a piece of tissue paper. The lack of rumble is a bit of a detractor but not a huge loss. But i would like it back and if they release a controller with it I'll buy it. As far as I've used six-axis in flow and resistance, it seems to work alright, but until i get a six axis heavy game it will be hard to tell. The thumb-sticks seem a little-less springy than i would like, but thats probably just me. A big plus is that the controller has its own charge cord, no batteries you mess with, and it plugs into the machine to charge. That is far superior, if you ask me, to the charge tower i have for my 360 controllers.

Ok, thats my quick look at the hardware as i pulled it out of the box. I will not review flOw or Resistance:fall of man until i finish them, so keep an eye out. Keep a lookout(all of the no people that will read this lol) for my further analysis later on down the road. Bless you guys, and don't let the fan-boys get you down!!!
