[QUOTE="MrDetail"]Hello all, I am an older father of a 6.5 yr. old daughter who will turn 7 in June. I have a few more months to figure out which model of Nintendo's DS might be best for her. Could anyone please give me some tips on which model to buy for her 7th birthday? (i.e. longer lasting battery, better screen) Thanks much!Will47
Your choosing this at a tricky time, the 3DS his coming just around the corner. It's not as much in the DS line as it is a whole new system, you can read about it here if you want.
Unless you feel comfortable spending the $250 the system will cost when it comes out, I would look at the current run of DS systems. The DS lite and DSi would be the two to consider, the DS lite plays all the games, is small, has great screens, and good battery life. The DSi has all of that and slightly bigger screens, two cameras, and the ability to download small games from the DSiware store (think app store for phones).
It really comes down to preferance and what you think she would like. If you just want the core features get the DS lite. If you think she would enjoy the cameras and other added features, get the DSi.
And of course be sure to look at the 3DS and decide if that's what you want to do or not.
I'm not sure if a 6 year old really needs a 3DS... Anyway, I'd get a DSlite, if you prefer an unused model. I don't think they even sell original DSs anymore, and a DSi has a lot of extra features, but it does cost more. A DSi has extra features like the Camera, Shop (where you can download games form wifi) and the sound (where you can record sound and play around with it). If your daughter will be easily entertained by games alone, I'd say get the lite, but she might have more fun with the DSi. I wouldn't get the original model or the DSiXL. Hope this helps.;)
