As we all know Super Smash Bros Brawl's release is only days away and I have to say Nintendo has really outdone themselves this time. Brawl is for sure going to be a masterpiece of a game and I guarantee that it will make history. This game has exceeded my expectations in every way. However I do have a few complaints and they relate to the characters. Am I the only one who thinks that 35 (37 including Zero Suit Samus and Shiek) characters is not enough? I mean come on we were expecting around AT LEAST 40 characters! That is my only complaint about the game but nonetheless 35 seems sufficient but of course more characters would have been nice. So I am here to give you my thoughts and opinions on EVERY Newcomer in Brawl as well as the veterans and what I think of them. Be WARNED as for some of you this may contain HUGE SPOILERS!
First off I will give an overview of the veterans and my thoughts on them. Overall most characters remain the same and that is a good thing. But some characters have been changed slightly from the last game. Here are all the changes:
1) Mario's down-b is now FLUDD the water spraying machine from Mario Sunshine. His down-smash is the Mario Tornado
2) Bowsers side-b is now the flying slam a move similar to Kirby's pile-driver grab move. He grabs you with his claws and then he jumps and drops himself with the opponent to the ground. This can also be a suicide move like Kirby's piledriver.
3) Captain Falcon can turn to the other side doing a 180 in midair while performing a Falcon Punch. This is an awesome addition to C. Falcon but it takes proper timing.
4) Samus has gained a new form in the form of Zero Suit Samus (lets call her ZSSamus from now on). She is a completely different character with her own moveset.
5) Falco's standard A attack is now a spinning move while his wings are outspread. He keeps on spinning. His forward smash attack has also been changed. Falco's reflector can be thrown at opponents now although it is not very powerful. It can still deflect attacks. Falco has been the most modified character in the game and that is a good thing since it distinguishes him more as a slightly different character. His aerial moves have also been altered. He now uses his Beak as a spiral and he also uses his wings in his midair attacks.
6) Ganondorf moves more stiffly and he looks much different sporting his look from Twilight Princess as well as Link and Zelda/Shiek. His side-b is now a choke hold uppercut. It looks so awesome. I have to say Ganondorf's final smash is AWESOME AS WELL. It has to be one of my favourites because he turns into the beast Ganon and gives an instant KO to anyone in his way. I hate the way he runs now. For some reason he reminds me of a guy running around with diarhhea. Thats how stiffly he seems to run. Seriously!
7) Links boomerang is now a tornado boomerang and he can also charge his spin attack. Great!! =)
So as we can see a lot of the veterans went through many positive changes and overall all there Final Smashes are great and epic! Ganondorf moving stiffly is my only complaint but I think many people (me included) wanted to see him use his swor for once besides just taunts!!!! It makes no friggin sense to me why he has a sword for taunting with but never actually USING! Oh well he still looks cooler than ever. So thats my overview of the veterans. They had many minor-to some major changes (such as Falco.)
Now lets get on with the NEWCOMERS!!!! I will give more detailed thoughts on them and what I think of them. We have a total of 16 (ZSSamus included) newcomers which is a lot and I am glad that there are no clones (except one) in this game. So lets get on with it!
1) WARIO- Yes as we all know Wario is finally in a smash bros game! I was waiting for this guy to show up for a long time. He fights in a strange manner similar to Game&Watch. He is very unique and uses very unusual moves. His Final Smash Super Wario makes him more powerful. It isnt what I expected but hey, Wario still looks awesome and very interesting to fight with but hard to master. No real complaints here.
2) PIT- When I saw this guy I was like WTF THATS AWESOME!! And he lived up to my expectations. I wish his FS was calling upon the Goddess and she would shower down beams from the sky. But his FS is alright. Pit also has an amazing recovery and probably the cheapest move of the game the ARROWS. He can spam them like crazy and that is very cool. I look forward to trying this guy out.
3) ZS SAMUS- Her fighting syle reminds me of Shieks: Quick agile and very powerful. She looks to be a very threatening player and I love how she can change her gun into a plasma whip. She looks to be better than Samus IMO. Just so you know she can be plyable from the start of the game when you hold down the R-button while at the character select screen so you don't have to use samus' FS in order to use her. Her final smash was pretty predictable since she just trasforms into Samus while her enemies get trapped in the force field around her. She looks to be another fast hard hitting character overall and thats great news for me. I am all about speed. BTW her down-b is her recovery move and her up-b is just a whip used to grab and shock opponents. Thats wierd and I was like WTF? But who cares ZS Samus sweet.
4) IKE- From Fire Emblem Ike is here and he is replacing Roy sadly(sorry TheRoyMaster). But he is a VERY powerful character although he is slightly slower. This guy has exceeded expectations and his special moves are all very powerful and his eruption move is similar to Roy's standard-b move. Ikes FS is nothing short of amazing and it is probably the best FS in the game. It is very dramatic and I can't wait to play as Ike as well!
5) POKEMON TRAINER- OK when I first saw this guy I was astounded and confused at the same time. This character was VERY unexpected. He is very unique cause he uses his 3 pokemon to do his dirty work. They are Squirtle, Charizard and Ivysaur. These guys are the most unique characters in the game and I think they are a great addition in Brawl from the Pokemon World. They can switch out so its basically 3 characters in one. THAT IS SOOOOOO SWEEET.
6) DIDDY KONG- Another guy I was expecting. He is finally here and he looks to be another interesting fighter. I like every thing about this guy and he is what one would expect. BTW I love his Barrel Recovery move.
7) METAKNIGHT- Another one I was expecting. I don't like how he is not able to hit hard but very fast. I mean in the videos it takes him foreever just to kill his enemy once! He is still very good and his FS is one of my favourites as well. It looks so elegant and graceful. I am very glad he is in the game.
8) SNAKE- Yeah everyone knows this but DAMN we were definetely NOT expecting this. A Metal Gear Solid character doesn't seem to suit the atmosphere of this game but Snake in Brawl is very cool. He uses all his weapons in battle and he can even set mines with his down-b. LOL at his FS. It brings back the FPS flavor from MGS. I love it. His FS is almost as good as Ikes(seriously Ganons and Ikes owned). Welcome to Smashbros Snake.
9) LUCAS- Lucas is someone I have never heard of but it doesn't matter as long as he is good. There has been a lot of arguement about whether or not Lucas is a clone of Ness. Besides the PK thunder and his forward smash as well as their slightly different FS the PK starstorm there is nothing else that is the same with these 2. Lucas can use the PK Freeze and his PSI magnet can cause a huge explosion on his enemy. He grabs with his pink snake which can also be used for tether recoveries. His up-strong attack is an electrical flip kick and his midair attacks are also different and stronger IMO. So yeah Lucas and Ness are not clones. THATS FINAL. Lucas seems to be more powerful than Ness too.
10) SONIC!- HELL YEAH ITS ABOUT F**KIN TIME!!! Sonic is finally here and he was very anticipated for me and many smash fans alike. He is so fast and seems hard to master but he looks to be good. His FS didn't surprise me and I think that its a waste of a move slot to make his down-b a charge for his side b spin dash. But oh well. He still looks to be a great fighter who is probably going to be my new main.
11) KING DEDEDE- Another expected entry. He is another heavyweight and he is VERY powerful but VERY heavy. Heavy players like DK and Bowser have never been my thing so Dedede is the same thing. But he looks good and I am also glad that he's in too. If you ask me his FS kinda sucks. I mean the music is annoying and the dance is messed up. It is basically the same thing as Pits FS but Pits doesn't look so... wierd and unusual. Anyway Dedede looks to be better than fellow heavyweights IMO. Thats just me though.
12) PIKMIN & OLIMAR- At first I thought this guy was strange and probably the crappiest player in the game but I got used to him. I have to say PK&O ties with the PKMN Trainer for the most unique character in the game. I would rather choose PKMN Trainer IMO cause he looks cooler. I like Olimars FS. It looks to be one of the most powerful ones out there.
13) ROB- This guy felt like a slap in the face when I first saw him. Really. He was a crappy racer in MK DS and I wasn't exactly thrilled with his entry into this game. But he is also very unique and DAMN he looks to be a powerful character. I have gotten over the fact that he is a crappy character. I saw his special moves and I was very happy with what I got. He looks really interesting and cool to me. I really want to try him out now! His FS isn't very thrilling but hey its better than having 3 characters with the same FS!(more on that in a moment) His FS is still a move with potential cause its great for edge hogging and you can control its direction of the laser beam.
14) TOON LINK- I wasn't expecting him but I thought he was a cool and strange addition. He looks awesome but I am VERY dissappointed with the fact that he is a clone!!! With the same FS and every thing. He is basically a replacement of Young Link so we really haven't lost him. We just gained another form of him from the LoZ WW Games. Sakurai you lied to us. You said you were getting rid of clones but you did NOT!! Anyway Roy would have been better due to his populairity but hey whats done is done right? On a side note Roy should have replaced Jigglypuff cause she sucks straight up IMO. Her FS is also very pointless. But hey thats just me. Anyway I am still hapy we got Toon Link as a replacement of Young Link. He looks faster and more lighter than Link BTW.
15) LUCARIO- When I first saw Lucario on a video on youtube I was overjoyed. He looks awesome and he IS NOT A CLONE OF MEWTWO. He is a better replacement. He can perform hand-to-hand combat and his only similar move is his aura sphere. But I am cool with that. It is after all Lucario's signature move. His FS was a Focus Blast which reminds me of the Kamehameha LOL. Its awesome in other words. Lucario FTW cause he looks to be one of my new mains.
16) WOLF O'DONNELL- Lastly we have the coolest character in the game IMO WOLF!!! Yeah he is here and DAMN he looks awesome and he fights awesome too. He is definetely gonna be my main along with Fox and Falco. I have only one HUGE COMPLAINT. WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF is up with his FS? Its so lame. It the exact same as Fox and Falco's. I think that Falco should go in an Arwing and Wolf should aummon the whole StarWolf team so they could team up and attack everyone on their jets and Wolf should summon the Wolfen. I mean a red landmaster is not gonna cut it. His FS could have been so great.. But it wasn't to be. Oh well besides that big problem Wolf is perfect in every way. His moves look amazing and devastating and his special moves while similar to Fox are very different and more powerful and they provide more knockback. Wolf also looks the coolest IMO.
Overall there you have it the whole roster and my thoughts on all the newcomers in Brawl. Pretty much all of them did not fail to dissappoint but having 3 characters with the same FS is lame and shows lack of ideas for Nintendo. Nonetheless all the characters are great and I think that even though 35 is a small number its still enough since there are 16 newcomers. I would also like to say farewell to Dr. Mario, Young Link, Pichu, Mewtwo, and especially Roy the characters from Melee who were replaced. I think that Jigglyppuff should not be in the game as she is pointless in every way and she has the lamest FS ever(seriously). Roy should have replaced her. So Toon Link replaced Young Link, Lucario replaced Mewtwo, Ike replaced Roy, Pokemon Trainer probably replaced pichu(yeah pichu sucked A LOT too). Dr. Mario should just be an alternate costume of Mario cause he was the exact same. Overall Brawl is still gonna rule and I really cannot wait to get it this summer along with Wii after school is over. BRAWL FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW I do hope you comment on what you think. I know this was one long @$$ blog but hey I just wanted to give my opinions.
