this guide is to teach you guys how to clean up and speed up your pc, have in mind that if your pc is too old the procedures may not make a huge impact.
procedures
1.download Ccleaner(this is one of the best registrity cleaners out there among uniblue software but that is not free=( we like free stuff =D)
2.if you dont have an anti-virus, download one. Avast is the best one for free (IMO) after you do so san your system with a deep system scan.
3.if your antivirus didnt detect a single germ, download spybot search & destroy.(this piece of software goes even deeper into scanning your system than antiviruses do)
ok the things above are the basic now lets get into the more "advanced" procedures
4.open up run(press the windows button+R or just type run on the search box) then type in %temp% (what this is gonna do, is to get rid of all those temporary internet files)
5.this step is mostly for people running 1GB of RAM or less(if you are running 2Gigs and above you are not going to notice a difference) ok go to control panel>system and maintenance>sysetm>advanced system settings>performance>settings>advanced>virtual memory>change it to 4096-4096(this is gonna give a part your HD the ability to be used as virtual ram when your physical ram is starting to lower from all the open programs)
6.if you wonder why your pc takes so long to start up here is the answer why...you are letting one too many programs start up with windos. to stop those useless applications from starting up with windows open up run and type msconfig then go to the startup tab, here uncheck all the programs that you think should not be starting up on bootup i.e MSN..it would be fatser to open MSN after windows startup than during windows startup. since the hard drive is already working fast enough to sart the OS.
7.other thing that drasticly slows down your boot up time is the sidebar(IMO useless)if you dont use it and just have it because you think it looks cool, then I suggest you press options and uncheck "startup with windows" because this takes away anywhere form 10-30 sec fomr your startup depending how fast your computer is.
8.one thing with windows vista is that it is not programed to recognize all your cores during startup(this only works if you have a dual, triple or a quad core)open up run and type msconfig then go to the BOOT tab then go to advanced options and check where it says "number of processors" then activate all your cores.this reduced my bootup time from 1:10 to an amazing 50sec I was happy =D
9.defragg your HD on daily basis, I personaly use auslogics disk defrag because its fast and free(you could download it at download.com) but the downside is that it doesnt matter what deffrager you use, if the file is over 64Mb it does not get deffragmented, thats the reason I also defrag through comand prompt. open up run and type in CMD then when you are in command promp type this "defrag (space) c: -w" (without the ").what this does is that it deffrags your system in a deeper way.(I let it run for at least 30min since I deffrag everyday but if its your first time deffraging your HD I suggest you leave it overnight)
Im going to post more advices on how to speed up your PC.if you have any problems feel free to PM me for help =D.
