You whole post falls apart. If someone is gonna pay for live but only goes online for 5 months then he can buy two 3 month cards totaling 40$ or get a 12 month online for 30$.Another thing is that silver members can buy dlc off of live to so you still pay the same if it's on psn(unless there was a sale). In the words of my friend, who owns an xbox 360, "Yeah, thats what I hate about Xbox Live. You have to pay for everything."
The discussion was on how, with his income, it's fairly hard for him to pay for XBL, new games, AND dlc. He likes the fact that the PS3 has free online, so he that he wouldnt have to pay extra to get everything out of a game. Unfortunatly, he cannot afford a ps3 at the moment, so, though he loves his 360, and XBL, he's stuck having to pay for online.
The PS3 having free online, and a good online service at that, puts it on par with the 360. It's also better for more types of gamers. For intance: Lets say someone on XBL loves playing RPGs. However, this guy also likes to occasionaly play MW2 online. However, his playtime on it is very scarce, and pretty much limited to whenever all of his friends make a party. So he plays a few times each month, but after 2 months, he gets bored with the game. His playtime with it is now once every other month. What does this mean? Well, if he only played for about a total of 5 months, and spent the rest of his time on single player games, he has now just pretty much wasted 50 bucks to play online. Now, if he were on a PS3, he would've been able to play for free, and thus, not bought a year service of somthing he would barely use over5 months.
Another thing is that, when purchasing items on XBL, you would still pay more altogether than on PSN. On PSN, since it's free, if you bought 3 dlc packs in a year, you would've probally spent around, say, 25 bucks. On XBL, since you still had to pay for the service, you now had to spend a total of 75 bucks. And when you consider PSN+, you get alot more for 50 bucks than XBL.
I have alot more to cover than a simple cost factor, but, I must unfortunatly take my leave here. But I will part with this, until I can add a bigger argument that PSN is equal (if not slightly superior) to XBL.
Home is apparently doing very well.

How about online contests where all you have to do is download a free gamer pic and win cool prizes like cars. But i guess you would say that i can go to the lottery or something off topic. If your paying 50 bucks to play online Xbox Live BETTER have at least 1 feature PSN doesn't have. Crossgame chat? you dont NEED it and PSN will probably add something similar or better soon.

I know all the great things that Xbox Live does but theirs many things it doesn't do.
Off the top of my head let me tell you a few things to consider before saying Xbox Live "is worth every penny"
On PSN, Sony lets me send ANY picture on my HDD to my friends in a message. On Xbox Live, MS says no to putting your own pictures on your 100$ HDD. Much less letting you send pictures in that type of form or fashion.
This is a big deal if you consider how many people take shots at Sony for not being able to send voice messages.
Home is much more useful than most people think. Now i wouldn't consider it second life, but as a gamer, i can hit up the local Warhawk room for clan matches, develop a strategy with my squad on a 3D layout of the map and from there i can decend into the game itself. I do the same thing with Killzone. Its very easy and useful, i dont know how well are clan matches would go without this.
Think about the 50$ MS charges JUST to play online, what else do you really get besides that luxory? Nothing, nothing at all.
On PSN, i cant voice chat in any game or send voice messages, but what i can do is everything else you get, including playing online for FREE. Although, say i choose to pay the 50$ for PSN Plus, i can play games online just as you do on Xbox Live AND get really nice discounts on things and free games tossed in that if to my liking, i can download them.
MS cuts you no slack, makes you pay for just about every theme and encourages a price tag on all DLC. (Think Gears of War when Epic tried to release free maps, MS said no)
I dont think i should blog this because it seems like all day today on SW, its been about PSN and Xbox Live arguments, so you here go. :)
