No need since your PS3 will upconvert your DVDs [and PS2 games] for you. There are some video settings where you can control a few settings. Check it out and ensure you have your setup right.

I have to state this just in case... You can only pass an upconverted signal to a HDTV via a HDMI cable!

I updated my routers firmware when I bought my PS3 last month. Everything is fine with all three of my computers using a wireless connection to the router which is connected to the Comcast broadband. I am using a Linksys WRT54G wireless G broadband router and Linksys WMP54G wireless G adapter on all three of my PC's.

The PS3 is slow downloading and uploading. Many have posted that they have slow connections even when hardwiring their PS3's instead of using wireless. I suspect the PS3 is just slow.

I hear what you are saying but that does not explain why my computer can run the speakeasy download test http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ with a fast 6,175 kbps but the PS3 runs the same test 10seconds later at half the speed at 3,238 kbps. The speakeasy test should have nothing to do with the playstation network for the test is through my PS3 from the http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ website. Again, everything is setup the same way though my wireless network with my Comcast broadband connection.

Thanks but I am looking for a reasonable explanation as to why the PS3 is not able to wirelessly download near the same speed as a wireless computer hooked up on the same home network. Either the PS3 is for some odd reason slow with downloading or maybe our ISP's are throttling the Sony network. I am using Comcast broadband. My statistics are listed in my first post at the top of this thread.

I recently talked to a guy at Bestbuy who said that a new firmware update for the PS3 takes away its backwards compatability with PS2 games and so he said that it isn't worth returning my 40 gig. and buying an 80 gig. because I won't be able to play PS2 games on it anyways? The idiot at best buy does not know what he is talking about. I have the latest 2.10 firmware and my kid has been playing the Spider-Man: Friend or Foe for the PS2 on our 80gig PS3 without any problems.

Just an FYI for any newbies to HDTV...

You have to use a HDMI cable to transfer the signal from an upconverting DVD player to a HDTV. An upconverted DVD is better than a non upconverted signal but it is still not a HD signal. Obviously you have to use a HDMI cable to connect your PS3 to your HDTV to get a 1080p signal.

Blu-ray is awesome and it really rocks when the studio takes the time to get the transfer right when they create the Blu-ray version. The new Blu-ray version of Blade Runner is a perfect example of what they can do to make a great old movie even better when they get it right with the Blu-ray version. You got to have a 1080p HDTV to get the most out of your PS3 for the 1080p games and the 1080p movies!

Yeah, your 8 year old playing online is a big no-no. You don't want him going around your house saying the things he hears online to you and your family. Trust me, it's VERY bad, even to the point where it bothers even me and I'm 28 and I swear myself. (just the conventional words like F, S and A)

I have set my child's sub account to "restrict Chat with other users = Yes" to prevent my child from hearing all the bad stuff that is said during online play. I do not have a headset for the PS3 to use for online chatting during a game nor do I plan to get one.
