I guess I'll be tossing away my 8800GTX by the end of the year then :?

And oh yeah:

Warth of the Lich King won't come out either.

It's not like the 8800 GTX will be obsolete. Just because better hardware gets released, doesn't mean hardware from the year prior is suddenly useless...far from it.
Even if you were set on upgrading by the end of the year, you could toss out the old 8800GTX which would be a MAJOR waste of money....or....you could do the smart thing and sell it on Ebay, then put that money towards getting a newer upgrade.

I definitely see Lich King arriving this year, probably late int the year, but definitely this year imo....after all, it was originally supposed to arrive last year. Sure, Blizzard is known for delays, but even they have never delayed an expansion or add-on more then a year.

Same thing with Starcraft 2.....people think that just because it was announced this year that it's a long ways off.....when in fact, Starcraft 2 has been in development since 2003, I mean actual development on the final version that is set to release, they were actually testing different ideas since 1999. That's because Blizzard learned from their past mistake of WoW of announcing it when it was still in early development.....with Starcraft 2 they literally waited till the final stage of development to actually announce it.
In fact, the game has actually been fully playable for a few months now, hell, it was playable when they made the announcement in Korea.......they're really just polishing it now, in fact, they've been polishing it.

Well I went and looked at the time frame of previous Blizard games, WC3, WoW, each came out about 2-3 years after being announced. But you're right, it could still come out this year, but I'm going into 08 pessimistically.

And yeah, tossing=Ebaying.

Most of your quotes I could see happening, but not this one. Maybe a card at sub 700$ capable of this feat.

Robnyc22

In the past, Nvidia has released sub-$250 cards that were faster then cards that were $500 just a year before, especially when a new chip architecture comes along.

In addition, the new chipset won't be the only thing that will allow for the increased frames in Crysis.....optimizations in expected patches in addition to enhanced drivers from Nvidia themselves will play a roll.

This is really no different then what has happened in the past with other games that where "benchmark" games where at release there barely any hardware that could run it on max smoothly, where just a year later affordable hardware could. Especially since Nvidia (and ATI) usually will optimize future hardware and driver releases to really push a specific benchmark game, which Crysis is the poster child at the moment.

Remember what a HUGE leap forward the 9500 / 9800 series was when it released in 2002 compared to the Geforce 4....then again with the 6800 / 6600 series in 2004 compared to ATI's offerings.....we're actually due for another big chip revision that takes a big step forward by the end of the year. Hell, Nvidia has been playing cat and mouse with ATI for awhile, cause supposedly some big release that have up their sleeve is said to arrive this year, especially when you read some of the rumored specs of the Geforce 9 series.

Of course this thread is nothing but speculation, but all my quotes have been based on hints or clues I've read from decent enough sources (such as with Homeworld 3, THQ, the company that owns Relic, officially bought the licence in 2006), or their based on trends that are already happening (Vista's poor adoption rate, Wii's successful sales) which I think will simply continue since I don't really see anything happening to change the situation.

I guess I'll be tossing away my 8800GTX by the end of the year then :?

And oh yeah:

Warth of the Lich King won't come out either.

- Nvidia will release a sub-$250 card capable of playing Crysis at max settings and high resolutions at over 60 frames constant by the end of the year based on a new GPU architecture.

What are some of your predictions for the game industry in 2008?

Some of mine include:

-StarCraft 2 will not be released, or ever given a release date.

-PS3 will start to really gain momentum and start making sense that it costs way more than the competition:Blu-Ray will not be deemed the "winner of the format war," I don't think a true "winner" will be deemed until at least 2010, when people start to actually buy HD-DVDs and BRDs.

-Gears of War 2 will be unveiled, still won't care about the story, but dual wielding chain-saws. You heard it here first.

-Capcom and Konami will not merge.

-If I wanted to be wild, I'd say that THQ and Take 2 will merge.

-Wii will not pass 360 in sales, but come extremely close, PS3 starts to close gap.

I have a full list of my predictions posted on my blog(completely unselfish blog plug!), but what about you guys?
