I loved the first Fear title. I found the storyline to be rich and intriguing with some really good gameplay mechanics. The second Fear title I found to be a quick throw together, the kind of title thats likely developed in the east in some non-English speaking country just to turn a quick profit, honestly...it was terrible.
This title however, redeems itself pretty well. I can say with certainty this is the first game I've played in quite a while that had absolutely no glitches in it whatsoever. Not with collision, graphics anomalies, sound, models, nothing. It played quite well. The controls and game mechanics are what you'd expect to find in a Fear title, pretty much the same as the original. You still have control of the time dilation to allow for Max Payne like takedowns.
As you progress through the levels, youll find yourself quickly exploring every single nook and cranny in the hopes you will find more ammo, a psychically charge corpse (which can be used to rank yourself up by absorbing the psychic energy) or an Alma doll (which also adds to your psychic energy rank up). The more psychic energy you absorb from the hidden dolls and specific corpses, the more you will rank (or level) up and gain more time dilation ability.
The run feature has a nice added bonus being that you can run then melee which will cause a sliding kick making it easy to then continually melee your victims to death. A common theme in this game is "Where is the ammo?", so you'll more than likely find yourself taking quick pot shots using your ranged weapons, then running up and meleeing to save ammo. The graphics have been amped up quite a bit the keep up with the modern hardware.
The sound and visuals were all pretty good. The storyline was also surprisingly good. This time around, your psychic brother is with you in spirit. At first glance this type of scenario comes off as a bit much, but in time you learn to really like having your brother appear from time to time, he even lends a hand to save you in some of the cutscenes, well done guys. The gameplay itself although linear in nature is pretty decent.
The game is a bit short in my opinion, I was able to walk through it in just a few hours on normal. However, for those of you out there that like to play multiplayer, you may enjoy some of the varied modes this game offers. I would suggest this game if youre a fan of the franchise but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. If you have a few extra bucks and some spare time, grab it off a discount site.
