Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is the third installment of the Chronicles of Riddick game franchise and by far the worst. Unfortunately this game lends itself to many glitches and otherwise lazy efforts in both level design and gameplay. One of the more annoying aspects of the game is the way you are able to get shot while completely hidden behind or even inside of an otherwise completely obscuredcontainer, very poor shot collision detection.
Just behind that is the amazing ability to get shot from enemies that aren't even facing your direction...hmmm. The level design although very well done visually in some areas is very linear and feels almost like that scene from Galaxy Quest where they're trying to make their way through the engine room and there are objects chopping and smashing for absolutely no reason. There are also quite a few sprite, particle and air born weapon errors.
Occasionally when firing a weapon, it would just stop working and there would be a frozen muzzle flash stuck in mid air, or when a rocket was fired sometimes it would just circle around in the air forever and downed enemies would sometimes develop crazy leg syndrome. The game does have some positive points however, the voice acting was very well done and includes Vin Dielsel and Lance Henriksen. The sneak, kill and stealth aspects were all well done.
The hand to hand fighting was decent with a decent set of varying moves, blocks and counter attacks. However, overall I would not recommend this game unless you are a huge fan of the Riddick series as a whole. The game just appears rushed and not polished at all.
