*gasp* Well it looks as if I've grown another level. I'm now a SNAKE EATER!!!!!!!! BOW DOWN TO ME MOAHAHAHA...............*ahem* Ok, that's not really my nature. No bowing down today. If you want to do that, go to VGK's blog or something. I'm sure he'll make you bow down to him:P. He makes me do it all the time:(.......
Last night I was watching Last Comic Standing. It was kinda disappointing compared to usual, and one of my favorite guys got voted off. But during the program, something happened that always makes my pulse increase everytime it happens: a special report suddenly appeared. I don't know how many of you have heard about it, but a bridge collapsed in Minneapolis over the Mississippi River. I guess a lot of people were injured and some even dead, which is unfortunate. And you wanna know something freaky? I was almost travelling on that road when I was in Minnesota a few weeks ago, but my dad and I drove on 35E instead of 35W because we were going to the Mall of America. But reading that article, it is sounding more shocking than when I saw that special report last night. I just hope my half-brother wasn't in that nasty destruction zone one his way home from work or something. My dad probably would've called me by now if he'd heard about him falling into the rubble, so he's probably safe. Now when I return to Minneapolis, I'm going to be paranoid probably . But hey, that could be expected in any city, so there's nothing to do about it. Sympathy goes out to those whose loved ones were in the wreckage:(.
Switching gears, you know how I was whinning like a loser in my last blog post about how I never get phone calls anymore? Well, the night afterward, ironically, I did. It was one of my lady friends calling me (who's the only person that calls me anymore) asking me if I wanted to go to see The Simpsons Movie with her and another friend! I had to ask my mom, since it was originally planned that I was going to take her to the chiropractor that day, but she granted access for me to go to the movies instead, since it was a rare opportunity that I was hanging out with friends, and she enjoys seeing me with friends. Even though it was a movie based off of a show I'm not a fan of, I ALWAYS try to take advantage of hanging out with friends. So, the next day, it was on, and boy was I happy that I went. I'll sum it up in a little review;) :
The Simpsons Movie
Another day, another major blockbuster for the summer. But how is this a major blockbuster, when it doesn't have superheroes, ogres, robots, pirates, talking mice, or action heroes? Because it's The Simpsons, one of the most successful shows on television (actually, this movie DOES have talking mice in it:P )! I've never been a fan of the show, but this movie may have very well changed that. From the statement that Homer gives to movie goers at the beginning that makes us feel stupid to the infamous "naked skateboarding" scene to the end credits, I must've laughed every 30 seconds. This was easily the funniest movie of the year so far. You have parodies, Homer getting hurt, wacky pop-culture references, hilarious dialogue, a ridiculous plot, THE WHOLE WORKS! To be honest, this movie could be a very convincing satire of global warming, which is what the plot is based upon. There's even a hilarious parody of the documentary An Inconvenient Truth in the movie! There were so many jokes in the movie that it was hard to breathe with all of the laughing I was doing. And me being a total n00b of the show, there were probably jokes I missed, due to the fact that you have to know the show to understand some of them. The only problem though was the length. I wanted more. A LOT more. About 70 minutes doesn't cut it. It was a memorable experience, though, and not only was it the best movie I've seen in the summer so far, it's probably the best movie I've seen all year. The comedy was more constant than Knocked Up and Ratatouille, making it the best comedy and animated movie combined so far. It gets a 9.5/10.
And why stop there, when I've got MORE movies to review? Let's get it crack-a-lackin..................ok, I'll never say that again:|. Anyways, here they are:
Hot Fuzz
Before I begin, let me say that The Simpsons Movie was even funnier than this movie, so for those who got their hopes up for me to say this was funnier, well, sucks to be you:P. But that doesn't mean this movie was mediocre. It was actually quite good. And you know what? The plot was actually clever! Quoted from imdb.com, the plot goes like this: Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner. On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events. And a series of suspicious accidents and events it is. Combining with clever humor are some gruesome, violent scenes and over-the-top, action-packed gunfights. There were even a couple scenes in which they imitate scenes from movies they were watching, which had me rolling. Most of the laughter, though, came forced unfortunately. You see, the humor in The Simpsons Movie tickles your funnybone to the point in which you can't help but to die in laughter, while the humor in Hot Fuzz was funny, but in a different way. It's the type of funny that is so clever, that it makes you chuckle while your brain tells you, "Wow. This is so clever, that it really doesn't require laughter." Either that, or you're just staring at the screen in awe with all of the ridiculous moments you come across. This being a British movie, of course I'm reacting to the comedy here differently, because it's distinct from what I'm used to. That's another thing, I had to use subtitles because, like always, it's always hard for me to understand what words the characters are exactly saying because of the accents. Not that I'm dissing the British or anything, but I'm just saying it helps when I use subtitles. That's something that I didn't do while watching Shaun of the Dead a long time ago, and something I did this time, which made the experience better. I don't think I could recommend this movie to someone who enjoys typical mainstream comedies such as Adam Sandler's movies or Will Ferrell's movies, but for those who love intelligent humor, as well as British comedy, you'll have a lot of fun here. It gets a 9/10.
In America
Here's a movie that was most likely overlooked the year it was released. In America is a movie about an Irish family migrating to America, moving into a nasty neighborhood surrounded by beggers and drug addicts, just to find a new beginning, and as they live there, everyone copes with the loss of a loved one while gaining a new friendship with a troubled African guy named Mateo (Djimon Hounsou). This was truly a movie that touches the heart, as the family struggles to live right while sticking together through thick and thin. They overcome obstacles such as coping with death, dealing with anger, discovering Mateo's weaknesses, and living with poverty while they settle into the gritty streets of New York City. The acting was alright, but nothing stellar. Hounsou probably gave the best performance, as he does his sh*t like usual. The youngest girl of the family just annoyed the sh*t out of me the whole time I was watching the movie, though. SHE NEVER SHUTS UP!!!! You almost want to throw a shoe at your television, while saying, "So that's why they have such long warrenties for televisions....." Ok, I'm probably overexaggerating, but I just found her annoying as hell. And why the hell does the father remind me of Ryan Gosling so much? Well, by the end, sensitive movie goers will probably cry, since it is a tearjerker. It is quite a beautiful ending to such a struggling tale. This movie deserves a 9/10.
*gasping for air* Man, the next movie I'm just going to rate, because I'm sick of writing reviews. Besides, the next movie is too complicated to explain anyways, so you'll have to watch it yourself. It is:
Talk to Her--9.5/10.
So, overall, four stellar movies that deserve to be viewed by everyone looking for memorable movie experiences. In America was probably the weakest link out of the bunch, but it's still highly recommended.
Well, nothing much else going on except I bought Borat pre-owned at the video store for $5 and I have an eye-doctor appointment tomorrow in which I'm also getting new glasses.
