I also hate how overwhelming the game feels. At least Morrowind has Sedya Neen (spell?) The trick to making these open world games NOT feel overwhelming, is slowly increasing the size of the world. Final Fantasy 12 did this well, with the world slowly opening up as you progressed in the story. If the game's leveling system didn't scale it would also be a lot better. If that happened, you could start out in a small(ish) district about one tenth the size of the full map, and have to do quests to get to a certain level or point in the story where it opens up.
EDIT: You can fix the vampire cure glitch on the GOTY edition, by changing the language of your system to German (other languages may work too) and completing the quest, you can then change back.

are you sure about this man? cuz if it's true i will defenitly play it the thing i want to know how you've discovered than changing language to german fix this vampire glitch? do you have a link?
I believe that only works in the PAL versions of the game.
