Janemba
(Tank Boy)
(Janempa)
(Janemba)
A creation of pure evil, Janemba is one of the strongest villains in the Dragon Ball Z movies. But Janemba wasn't always this way: he was once an ordinary teenage ogre named Gasu (Tank Boy) working in the afterlife and keeping an eye on the soul clensing machine, used to purify spirits being sent to Hell (HFIL).
One day, Gasu listens to extremely loud heavy metal music on a personal stereo. Unfortunately, the music is so loud that he loses his concentration completely and forgets to change the tanks in the soul clensing machine, despite another ogre warning him. The machine overloads and explodes, releasing all the evil aura contained within. One evil spirit, incredibly powerful, engulfs Gasu in a cloud of smoke, and when the smoke clears, he emerges not as a small ogre, but as an enormous, childlike, yellow and pink demon named Janemba (this form is known as Janempa in the English FUNimation dub). Immediately after coming to his senses, Janemba uses his new powers to turn all of the afterlife into a field of crystal jellies, and locking King Yemma up and opening the portal between Hell and Earth in the process.
Later on, while he is still sitting on the jelly in which King Yemma is imprisoned, Janemba is confronted by Goku and Pikkon, who demand that he release the spirit world immediately. But when Janemba displays his extremely simple and childish mind (all he can say is "Janemba! Janemba! Janemba!"), he is lured by Goku's childish games into the depths of Hell while Pikkon tries to free King Yemma.
In Hell, Janempa and Goku start playing "games", which include Janemba creating several "little Janempas" setting them on Goku; Janempa making the crystall jellies rain on Goku; Janempa punching Goku around like a little ball; Janemba using his new afterworld laws to reflect Goku's own Kamehameha wave back at him; and Janempa using his chest to bomb Goku. Janempa's childish games eventually enrage Goku enough for him to power up to Super Saiyan 3. Janemba now proves to be no match for a Super Saiyan 3 and is completely dominated and mortally wounded by Super Saiyan 3 Goku's super attack.
In a desperate attempt to save himself, the now-angered Janemba undergoes a transformation and evolves into a serious, red and pink demon just Goku's size. Janemba resumes the fight with Goku and completely dominates him. But he is interrupted by the timely intervention of Vegeta, who has come to fight him. Janemba topples Vegeta with minimum effort, since Vegeta is only at Super Saiyan 2 and no match whatsoever for Janemba. To Janemba's fury, Goku intervenes and carries Vegeta away to hide.
Janemba then looks all over for the two Saiyans, until he is confronted by an obese, black-haired warrior in a black and orange waistcoat, white trousers and a dual voice: Veku, the failed fusion dance of Goku and Vegeta. Janemba then fights and severely beats the weak Veku, until the fusion wears off and Janemba loses the Saiyans once again after being knocked out by Goku.
Janemba resumes his search for the Saiyans and eventually catches them performing the fusion dance. Ready for the kill, Janemba is interrupted by Pikkon, who has come to buy the Saiyans enough time to fuse. Janemba engages Pikkon in combat and almost kills the valiant warrior when he is confronted once again by a slimmer, taller, blonde-haired version of Veku: the fearsome Gogeta, result of the perfect Goku/Vegeta fusion dance.
Gogeta and Janemba then fight, and Janemba is toppled by Gogeta and ultimately destroyed by Gogeta's super attack: a soul punisher that clenses a spirit of it's evil within. Being an evil spirit, Janemba is completely vanquished, but he doesn't die. Instead, he reverts back to his original form of Gasu, who runs away from Gogeta after seeing Gogeta's stern expression.
Janemba has two forms. His first form, called Janempa in the FUNimation English dub, is a chubby and very large fellow. This form uses his power in a childlike fashion to morph Hell into his own colourful fantasy playground. Janempa is a giant, with his hand being as large as Goku himself. He has small, studded horns, and his skin is yellow. Janempa's intelligence is limited; the only word he knows how to say is his own name (similar to Pokémon). Son Goku appears and fights Janempa for a while, who has some humorous attacks such as creating miniature versions of himself and of Goku and punching him around from portals. Eventually, Goku powers up to Super Saiyan 3 and attempts to kill Janempa, who then transforms into the more powerful Janemba.
Janemba is the more powerful form and, unlike his previous form, is deadly serious. Once again, Hell morphs into Janemba's fantasy which is a desolate grey graveyard of spikes and dust. Janemba wields a fearsome red sword which he uses to almost kill Goku, but Vegeta saves him. The sword shoots out ki which can cut someone at a distance.
In his final form, Janemba's techniques included a type of deconstruction/reconstruction teleporting known as the Bunkai Teleport, portals with which he can attack through, able to stretch his arm at lengths, turning objects into deadly weapons, project his opponents own Ki back at them through portals, and a powerful sword capable of shooting slicing energy out in strikes. Janemba's techniques are unique which separates him from other Dragonball villains.
When Janemba transforms into this demon-like form, he becomes much more intelligent. His voice changes as well; when he was in his first form, Janemba's voice sounded very childlike. When he transforms, it is much more sinister. In the Japanese version, Janemba sounds like an insane murderer, but in the English version, his voice bears a slight resemblance to Cell's. He no longer speaks (not even his name like in his first form) just grunts and yells. Janemba is more powerful than Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta and Super Saiyan 3 Goku. His only weakness is when someone yells curse words at him, some pieces of him will break just like the ice jellies. Realising that neither of them can beat him, Goku teaches Vegeta the fusion dance so that they may get enough power to win the fight, however Vegeta messes up the performance and the failed fusion Veku results. Unable to fight or ascend, Janemba tries to beat the life out of Veku until the fusion wears off, but all he does is make Veku fart on him a few times. Pikkon appears and helps fight Janemba but is quickly beaten. However it buys Goku and Vegeta enough time to fuse properly, becoming the fearsome Super Saiyan Gogeta.
With more than enough power to defeat Janemba, SSJ Gogeta kicks him back, then creates a Soul Punisher with his left hand and throws it at Janemba, exorcising all the evil spirits from his body. Because Janemba is an evil spirit, he reverts back to a terrified Tank Boy. (Soul Punisher)
