Fixing Error Code 86420

Hello im going to teach you how to fix this error, right now I have no screen recoreder so ill have to type it out.

First of all im going to be using my linksys router. My model number is BEFSR41 Ver. 4.1, yours will vary but Ill still try to help. So error code 86420

means that you arent conecting to ther players the right way, meaning you need to check your ports and enable dmz. Well first well set up our static ip is what we will be using for our wii. I will be explaining my router but for yours check out this place and set your static ip up. So for setting up astatic ip on a linksys router befsr41 or any ther linksys. If you have a printer, before you begin print out this page!

Step 1:

Open up the start menu, and click Run. You should now see the following window. After that you can look up your static thing to help. Type in cmd or command and hit enter.

Step 2:

Type cmd in the Open: box, and click Okay. The will bring up a black command prompt window. You should then see a lits of numbers and other thins, now what you want to do is get type in ipconfig/all then get everythinh below ip address stop and dns servers you will need the primary and secondary. Take down the IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and Name Servers. Make sure to note which is which. We are going to use this information a little bit later. Once your finish Type exit in this window, then press the enter key to close it.

Step 5:
Once again open the start menu. This time click Control Panel. and go to network options, then view network connections and right click your conecction and go to properties.

Step 6:

If you are unsure of which one that is, right click it and then click disable. Open a new copy of your web browser? Did it open a webpage? If you can not, then you've found your internet connection. Close that browser window. Go ahead and right click the network connection again and then click enable. Once again open up a new web browser. You should see a webpage. Close the browser window. Right click on the network connection and click properties at the bottom.

Step 7:

You should now have the above window on your screen. Click the properties button to open up the properties window of this internet connection.

Step 8:
Click Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and then the Properties button. You will now see the following screen.

Step 9:

Before you make any changes, write down the settings that you see on this page. If something goes wrong you can always change the settings back to what they were! You should see a dot in the Obtain an IP address automatically box. If you do not, your connection is already setup for a static ip. Just close all these windows and you are done.

Pick an ip address and enter it into the IP Address box. The ip address you choose should be very similar to the router's ip addres. Only the last number of the ip address should be different. If the router's ip address is 192.168.1.1, I might choose 192.168.1.10. The ip address you choose should end with a number between 1 and 254, and should not be the same as the router's ip address. Every device that connects to your network needs to have it's own ip address.

Put the subnet mask we previously found in the subnet mask section. The default gateway should go into the Default gateway box. Enter the dns servers we prevoiusly found into the two DNS Server boxes. Click okay all the way out of this menu.

If you find that you can not pull up webpages, the problem is most likely the dns numbers you entered. Give your ISP a call, and they will be able to tell you which dns servers to use. This is a question they answer all of the time. They will be able to tell you what you should use right away. That's it you should be done! If you can't connect to the internet go back and change your configuration back to what it originally was. You now have your static ip set up rememebr that new ip you will be needing it.

Port Forwarding Your Router

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.1.1. (for linksysi think)

network pass

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

linksys

Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.

You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Range Forwarding.

Application | Start | End | Protocol | IP Adress | Enable

Brawl | 1 | 65535 | Both or UDP |the static ip you made| Checked

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. Starcraft requires you to forward the 6112 ports. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Port Range Forwarding menu.

When you're finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

And that's it! You're done!

Note: Make sure you have the latest firmware, that was why it wasnt working for me. For this router on the top right you should see 1.04.09.

Setting up your wii ip settings

Go to your wiimenu, then wii settings, page 2, then internet, make a conection test to see if your still connected (jot down your support code!), once after that change the setings ( you will need those settings you wrote down with your info ) when its says auto obtain ip adress click no then advance settings, type in the static ip you made, for this router it should be 192.168.1._ Next in subnet mask type in 255.255.255.0

Your default gateway is the default router so put that in their. Next advance to dns thingy and type te primary and secondary into the two boxes. after that save and see if you can connect to the internetyour support code should be different if not its ok but its recommended.Ok get on brawl and try connecting with anyone.

If you are still getting the error code, go back to your routers settings. 192.68.1.1

Default password is admin, user admin. Go do aplications and gaming, and unnder that their are choices click DMZ and you check to see if its enable if it is not enable it and put those three numbers you port forwarded. Now what this is doing is telling the firewall to not bock anything for this ip giving it a good smoother and faster connection. Save the settings and go for a connection test in your wii settings again to see of your still connected, your support code should change if not its still ok lol i got one more thing for you. Go back and brawl and brawl with anyone it should search for players it shouldnt take no longer than to minutes. If you ge the error code again go back to your routers settings on the computer, if you have a wireless connection check your chanels make sure its set to 1 or 11, if wired which is faster, make sure you have your firmware update this helps a lot including lots of bug fixes. Now i want you to go to admimistration restore to default, its ok if you have a wired conection you wont loose any settings your port forwards you will so remember those and write them down. So reset/set to default and you should get this again.

Type those back in and enable dmz again.

Application | Start | End | Protocol | IP Adress | Enable

Brawl | 1 | 65535 | Both or UDP |the static ip you made| Checked

Go back to your wii internet settings and see if your still conected, you should! get a new support code if so, test connection again abnout 3 more times to see if it changes or if it stays. If this is hapening then this is a good thing. Start up brawl and play with anyone and wait about 5 to 7 minutes the first time you should not get an error code, if so re check some of the steps or call nintendo for a representitive to help you. It should be working now so go own!
