Maybe I'm just 'Old School', but I prefer single player shooters over the current insistence on multiplayer Zombie fests.

As such, I like the campaigns to last,...in real life terms, atleast a month,...in playing terms, atleast 25-30 hours. And thats on the Normal default settings.

When I first started building computers, the first game that REALLY grabbed me was Medal of Honour; Allied Assault! That game lasted a good long time. Spearhead and Breakthrough were a waste of time mind you, but atleast THE team that created Allied Assault redeemed themselves when they 'banded' together to create Infinity Ward and CALL OF DUTY!! The first 3 COD games were outstanding!!

I really miss those LONG campaign games! For the $60 the publishers are demanding for a new game these days, I would like the game to last longer than a day!!

I just finished Black Ops, after waiting for the price to drop to $35, and I finished the game in just over 8 hours!! Huh!? Wha? I felt like I was asleep for half the game, and missed some of the missions!! Dont get me wrong. I thought the story was great, the missions decent, and the graphics typical of Call of Duty,...but c'mon,...8 hours!?

And okay fine, the publishers create DLC for MP,..where is the same for Single Player?! I'd pay an extra $10 for some more missions,...

And while we're at it, discussing missions,...not all missions have to be shoot everything till it stops moving!! What happened to stealth, and using a sniper rifle? And missions don't have to move in a linear fashion. Why not have choices to make that result in different paths? The ultimate ending might still be the same, but how we get there dosen't have to be!!!

I guess it boils down to 'I want a FPS game that challenges me to make decisions for atleast 30 hours of gameplay', like Allied Assault, Jedi Outcast, Far Cry, and Stalker.

Tho I cant say for certain what your problem is or why, I did have installation problems with Airborne for several days.

My solution involved reading the forums here, and improvising.

First, remove any Ageia driver if it exists from your computer. Thats the first problem. Next, remove any and all traces of any MOH Airborne demos that you may have tried. The demo will cause the computer to be unable to find cab and other files. Last,...remove any STEAM program or any VALVE software. This DOES cause a great deal of installation grief.

After removing the above reinstall MOH Airborne...with luck it should install fine. Once it does, go to Ageia and install the latest Physics drivers that are available for Windows XP. And theres also a patch available V 1.2 that you can download real quick from Filefront.

Good luck.

I have to agree with you that games are becoming alot like movies...in fact the entire world of entertainment has reached a point of quick to the finish line, so we can suck up some more cash, regardless of whether the "product " is worth the price...

The quick answer is new tech and longer development times cost more money, and no one wants to invest in a potential dud...so the industries solution is rehash old stuff, give it a new coat of paint and sell it as new...

Examples of this? How about DOOM 3, or the Call of Duty series, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and coming soon ...Star Trek...

All of these are phenominal successes, at the cutting edge of tech, and all suffer from the same Achilles heel, most notably the second Star Wars trilogy...the stories are gone, or at the very least, emasculated and redundant.

Yah sometimes, its nice to just watch carnage, or wipe out aliens ad nauseum...however the industry,... movie, television, video game, music, ...have unfortunately gone too far. There should be more of a balance...

Far Cry is the most recent example, (that I've finished) of a great game,...long, plenty of carnage, great graphics and an interesting story,...a little over the top, but hey its a game...

Unfortunately thats the last one I can think of...

Is there anything to be done? No, not really, its just a fact that as long as the bean-counters are left in charge, this will be the end result...

The next chapter in the Star Wars legacy is going to be exclusive to consoles...doesnt do much good for us PC gamers on the PC forum.A1B2C3CAL

Until someone actually says so, I'm of the opinion that if it can run on an X360, it can be ported to PC....but that's why I'm hoping it isn't a bug-ridden and unplayable port like Lost Planet.

Besides it would be insane not to offer PC users the game....we're the ones that paid for Lucasarts over the years!

OOH, ooh,...

Okay boys and girls, go directly to the horses mouth, and see the trailer at Lucasarts.com...

What you'll see is the next chapter in the Star Wars legacy,... Star Wars: The Force Unleashed...

And what you will see is pretty cool,... I just hope and pray they'll get the bugs out before publishing...

I don't think it would affect system stability/buginess but are you running your RAM in dual channel mode? If you don't know what that is...do you have an even number of RAM sticks?

It might be worth trying it with just 2gb since you won't see a difference in performance at all really.

D9-THC

Yah, they're paired. Two by 1Gb, and two by a half Gb. And I followed the installation as per the Asus manual.

Could always pull the extra ram...added that at the same time as the card and power supply. Hmmm...

About a year ago, I came across a video online of a JEDI game I had never seen before...

In this video, some Jedi apprentice or even Master, was standing amongst the ruins of a destroyed city. As he's hiking through, he's attacked by stormtroopers. But instead of fighting them with his sabre or blaster, he just grabbed them with the Force and started pummeling them into the groundor walls of the ruins...

Upon finishing them off, he's attacked by TIE fighters making a strafing run. Reaching out with the Force again, he quickly dispatches the fighters by ripping them apart mid-air...

Soon afterward, the video was unavailable on the web, but I did find out the title of Lucasarts latest ...JEDI; Force Unleashed...

Did anyone else see that video, or has heard anything more about when we might see some more on this project?

Do you have an old version of the Float32 mod installed? If so you should update...

I think I remember reading specifically that he had addressed weird colors and artifacting so if nothing else give that an update.

D9-THC

Also be sure that you have enough power going to your graphics card because I know that everything strange under the sun can happen to your graphics in those circumstances and with overheating. :D I have always found it to be helpful to me when I address the basics first.omino

Alrighty then...

I just checked and yah, I've got the latest updates installed, and I did get a new power supply when I installed the card. Its an 850 watt system from OCZ. And I also boosted my ram to 3 Gb.

All in all, she's a great little beastie, but I'm irked that the latest patch failed for me, and HALO won't run anymore.

Anybody else have any ideas or have had similar problems?

that sux, well stalker's been fine for me with 1.3 so i didn't bother with 1.4. despite your problems...is it worth the time? i hardly read up on it00ooPolarisoo00

I figured with all the rave reviews from those who tried the v1.004 patch, there must be some significant improvement in graphics and gameplay...NOT!

Mind you I am wondering if it has something to do with my video card that I put in last month (BFG8800 GTX)Since that time I can't play HALO, without significant character distortion. Backgrounds are great as are foreground details. But anything animated has a digital smear running off screen. I've updated the drivers as well but that hasn't helped.

And I'm still awaiting word from the tech department at Microsoft...

Alright, I've a bugger of a question thats been botherin me all weekend.

When the new patch for STALKER arrived last week, v1.004, I read all the comments and noticed that everyone was happy with the patch and how it improved the game. I was quite content with the previous patch v1.003 but decided to install the next patch anyway, especially after reading that saved games would not be lost...

Well it didn't work that way for me. Not only could I not play my previous saved games, but I could'nt even start a new game either. And once I did manage to get the game running, I was having all sorts of artifacts on screen, especially in the underground Apogram Institute. My flashlight as well as the red emerge light were strobing instead of remaining constant, and there was numerous glitches present that were not there before.

After trial and error and installing and un-installing over two days, I pulled the v1.004 patch, and went back to STALKER using the v1.003 patch.

Has anyone had any problems with the v1.004 patch?
