@webbut
I hope thats sarcasm, if it is i'll give you an lol.
if it ain't, let me guess, the world is ruled by mice, all black people are aliens, drug regulations only exist so the heads of state would have more for themselves, WE ARE ALL LIVING IN AN IMAGINARY WORLD CALLED THE MATRIX...
well thats all i got.... but really though i hope your last comment was a joke
I think the topic creator has a point in that games should always have that element of fun, i would never disagree with that.
however i think that many recent attempts to make games look realistic is the fact that people are finally able to make such games, because technology finally allows them to. However, someone brought up that they try to make everything realistic (circuits working like real circuits and whatnot), i think they were just exaggerating, i hope, because although some games LOOK realistic,games still have a very long way to being realisitic in terms of physics and laws of nature. And that may be because that would be a tremendous undertaking to create and too demanding on today's hardware, but perhaps in the future we'll see more of it. Hopefully when people do attempt it, it will be with fun and original gameplay (half-life 2), not just for the sake of being realisitic like developerrs do today with certain games graphics.
And also, i can't help but feel like some people in this discussion are grouping games with realistic graphics to be boring games, or that wacky, cartoonish games are always fun.... the thing is that both of these characteristics are really mutually exclusive if you ask me.
And there are plenty of games that aren't trying to be real high end with their graphics and have kept things pretty simple in that regard, while emphasizing their gameplay and fun factor to make up for the fact, you just have to look for them. I do think its lame that if a game doesn't have good graphics, it has to advertise some other aspect of itself to be unique in order to even get any publicity. But that just tells you about us gamers in general i guess, and what we look for, afterall we provide the demand, and the developers supply. I think that may be what the topic creator may be fustrated with.
I generally feel i'm done with a game when i go through the main story on either default or hard difficulty. I don't really consider multiplayer games to ever be finished.
However when i go through a game's story mode and get less than 100 gamerpoints out of it i feel a bit unsatisfied *cough guitar hero cough*. I think any playthrough at default difficulty should get you at least around 200 points.
[QUOTE="grunt_destroyer"]I won't disagree with your claim that japanese games have more substance, thats something that is opinion and that is easily debateble. But the way you structure your argument, or way in which you justify it, is so weak. Basically you say that America is shallow and only concerned with people's looks. By this I assume your talking about hollywood and celebrities. Then you say that this transfers over to "entertainment", where i think you meant specifically video games, otherwise it would've been redundant. Not only does this show prejudice, but you imply that the Japanese are not superficial in any way and the only thing they worry about are the more abstract qualities. Hence your arguement is so weak, because many japanese are clearly concerned with looks, just look at their celebrities and culture and tell me that their not concerned with looks. Then to be so condescending to others, when your warrants are absurd is ridiculous.ceells87
Yes I realize now that I should be 100% specific when posting on gamespot forums so that my words aren't played out in someones head the way they want to hear them. I wasn't implying in any way that japan is in less superficial than any other country in the world. I've been there and know how much they like to change their how they look. But we are talking about video games and thats the subject area I was, or meant to, focusing on. The TC put up a post talking about the lower qualitiy of graphics from japanese games as compared to western games and so I gave my reasoning for it. I neevr once said it was the only one but of course someone took it that way and decided to run with it.
Well i'm glad you clarified. I may have been a little too critical, like you said it is just gamespot, but i'm actually writing an essay right now for my college writing class and i'm in the argumentative mindset, so pardon if i was over analytical.
