Yakuza 2 is OUT!!!!! And it's only $29.99

Obviously I bought it. Can't wait to play it. As soon as I'm done with my research for the week and work. Yakuza was one of my favorite games of all time, and I've played a lot. I never thought sega would localize Yakuza 2. Yay!!!!

ICO = overrated excrement

Got ICO. Jesus, this game is overrated. All it is, is flashback (genesis) in 3d. I'll take Prince of Persia over this any day. I've played worse, but 8.5? More underrated than Planescape? Most overrated game since Dino Crisis, IMO.

8.5!!!!!

That means this game is allegedly as good or better than Metal Gear Solid, American McGee's Alice, Xenosaga, Shenmue, Jade Empire, Kingdom Under Fire, Baten Kaitos, Empire Earth, ZOE2, Fatal Frame, every Silent Hill game, Kingdom Hearts, Gothic 2, and my personal favorite, Fear Effect.

onimusha 3, american mcgee's alice and backyard wrestling

Onimusha 3 is of course good and pretty much exacty what I expected, except finally with better controls than the other 2 games. Alice is great, and I'm surprised I hadn't bought it sooner.

BW isn't as bad as the reviews indicate. it reminds me of the thrill kill beta. really fun game for the price (it's very cheap right now). not very polished but i think a 4 is on the low side. more like in between 6-7. the environmental interaction and trailer park allure is pretty fun, if at times sloppily executed.

hell night

Just got Hell night. Wow. Crap graphics, but great sound and concept. Really bizarre FP survival horror game.

heretic kingdoms

Beat the K:HK demo. Reminds me of Dungeon Siege or one of the dozen other NWN/Diablo clones gameplay wise, but it has a pretty decent story (well above average for the hack n slash RPG genre) and lots of action. Fun stuff, even if it's not particularly original or GotY material.

I think I'll pick it up. It's not as addictive as Sacred, but I'm still a sucker for a decent PC action/RPG.

vietcong

Got Vietcong Purple Haze (PC, not the inferior console port). Amazing game. The gameplay reminds me of mafia, even if the setting and perspective are different.

Its mixed reviews go one step closer towards proving how utterly corrupt the gaming press is. I don't think there was one mention of bugs with a gaming darling like GTA:SA (which was buggy even on the consoles), any number of MMO's or farcry. Also, they criticize this game's graphics but applaud a console port like GTA that didn't even have good graphics on the PS2?

They patched the game, and the graphics look pretty good. Considering every other major game lately needed a patch or two I don't see why this gets trashed for it. Oh wait, I know - they didn't throw money at adverts.

bloodrayne 2

9.99 circuit city.

I now own every Terminal Reality horror game made until this point.

So far I'm impressed. Even more of an over the top action game than BR1. The graphics got a major overhaul and the new combat system seems great.

an alternate take on WoW

Just got WoW cheap from a friend at the prodding of one of my other friends that's addicted to it. I figured "How could I go wrong?" after reading dozens of reviews that said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and even people who hate MMO's should try it - even though I don't normally like MMO's. Well it turns out, every single problem I've ever had with MMO's is present in WoW. The story is horrible, the combat is worse, the community is terrible, and there's a ridiculous amount of grinding and fetch quests.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think it sucks, a lot. It's not even remotely fun. Besides the typical MMO problems, there's a MANDATORY tutorial (basically the first 5-10 lvl), looting takes forever, combat consists of right clicking, left clicking and then getting a beer out of the fridge while the enemy dies, the map is a pain to manipulate, the story is bad, and the community is awful.

There goes 30 bucks.

For my money, CoH is 10000X better. For an MMO, I didn't mind the original EQ much either.

In short, if you don't like MMO's much, you probably will hate WoW as well.

edit:

I just hit lvl 9. The game's actually playable but the first 10 lvl's suck. I still think CoH is a much better game though.

Sacred Gold

Started playing Sacred. I think crack is less addictive than this game.

It's the second coming of Diablo 2.

City of Heroes

Started playing the CoH 14 day trial. It's fun, but I probably won't subscribe.

Pros: I like the community, it seems like mostly normal people and very few kids. Character creation is amazing. The graphics are nice. Combat is admittedly a lot of fun with a few teammates, but soloing gets boring quickly. It is nice you can actually finish a quest in an hour or two and solo effectively, unlike some other MMOs where you can barely get anything done in a single logon, let alone solo. "Sidekicking" (which allows higher and lower level players to play together) is also a really good idea. Combat is actually the best I've ver seen in an MMO.

Cons: Where's the sound? Apparently they forgot it. Virtually no music and minimal sound effects.

The game's biggest problem and a fatal flaw in an MMO is that it lacks depth. No items, no loot, the worst story I've ever seen (even for an MMORPG), and it's very repetitive. Every quest so far seems to be "go to the warehouse and kill everything". NPC's just give out quests or thank you from saving them. It's not even like they have backstories or even any dialogue beyond "you are a hero", "kill X in warehouse" or "go find X"

Overrall, a decent and extremely amusing game in short intervals, especially for casual MMO gamers or people who aren't really into RPG's but want to play an MMO, but I couldn't see playing it for more than a month. Maybe not the deepest MMO out there, but pretty good.
